One mistake I have made over and over is the mistake of thinking "people are like me". I mean think like me, pure minded like me, have same energy and intentions as me ( I know I'm not alone on this). Maybe it's because of the way we are brought up, to always be optimistic and see the good in people. But unfortunately people like us have been manipulated, disrespected, used and left holding onto the short end of the stick most times.
However, truth is your predisposition towards every man should be DOUBT. Now what does this mean? 🤔 It means you don't have to believe at first take what people tell you, what people ask of you. It means you don't have to rush yourself into getting along with people at first sight. Rather, doubt their energy, intentions and the things they say, and then patiently let them prove themselves to be worth your time, attention and energy. In research, it's like setting a null hypothesis (Ho) then setting up an experiment to prove your Ho wrong.
Do not pursue another man's dreams more than he himself is willing to pursue it.
Believe in them as much as they believe in themselves. Otherwise there is a price you will pay for doing so. Your zeal for them to achieve what you both had set out to achieve will become mistaken for arrogance and you will be hated and disrespected for it.
Also, be decerning enough to know what you can put up with and what you can not.
Know how they operate and if it doesn't match with how you operate then take a bow out.
Understand that your own endeavors are as important as theirs. You didn't set out to lend a helping hand out of sheer boredom, you gave a hand because that's what humanity and humility is all about, so insist on them to respect your commitments by simply "communicating" with you to help you plan your own day and activities. You are not a robot to show up whenever you are called upon.
Do not play small with small minded people. If you do then you are just small minded as them at the end of the day. Set your standards and if they cannot measure up, then walk away.
Finally, learn to keep sentiments and emotions aside, work with people who can get the job done. It doesn't matter one bit if you don't like them or vice-versa. The aim is to get the job done.
