GOV ALIA EXPRESSES SATISFACTION WITH THE SPEED OF WORK AT APER AKU STADIUM

Sunday , August 4th, 2024.

Benue State Governor , Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has expressed satisfaction with the speed of the renovation work at the Aper Aku Stadium, Makurdi.

The Governor who made an unscheduled visit at the Stadium on Saturday, August 3rd, 2024, to personally ascertain the level of work done so far, urged the contractor to ensure he completes the work in time to enable Lobi Stars FC play their home matches in Makurdi, during the upcoming 2024/2025 Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) Season.

He described the stadium as one of a few cherished government assets, stating that when completed, the facilities at the stadium will meet up with FIFA standards, placing it at par with modern stadiums in the world.

The governor also reiterated the desire of his administration to revamp all moribund industries in the state, thus boosting the economy and bringing about more development.

Speaking on behalf of Monimichelle Sports Facility Construction Limited, the Contractor handling the renovation work at the 10,000 capacity Stadium, Mr. Ebi Ezekiel Ebe, assured that work at the Stadium will be completed within the stipulated time, meeting all the given specifications.

GOV ALIA CALLS ON NEW BSIEC CHAIRMAN TO BE APOLITICAL

Friday, August 2nd, 2024.

Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has called on the new Chairman of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC), Barr. Richard Terlumun Tombuwua, to take the new assignment as a clarion call to offer a great service to the state, urging him not to dabble into politics.

Governor Alia made the call on Friday, while swearing in the new BSIEC Chairman at the Old Banquet Hall, Government House, Makurdi.

Recall that the Benue State House of Assembly had on Thursday, August 1st, 2024, recommended the removal of the erstwhile Chairman of the Commission, John Chen, citing his lack of good Judgment as to which decision will appeal to the greater majority of the people, insisting that his actions in office fell short of public interest.

Performing the ceremony after Barr. Tombuwua was confirmed by the State Assembly, Governor Alia tasked the new boss of the State electoral umpire to uphold integrity, becoming the best for himself and State, and to ensure that his services are of tremendous success to all political parties in the state.

He described the new BSIEC boss as a square peg in a square hole, urging him to remain accountable and steadfast, distancing himself from self-interests.

The governor highlighted the new Chairman’s integrity, fairness and the many years of professionalism he has invested towards the good of the State, as some of the qualities the administration and the state require at this time.

He appreciated the Organized Labour , Unions, groups and the entire people of the state for honouring his call not to join the nationwide protest, assuring them that he will do more for the state.

Responding, the new BSIEC Chairman, Barr. Tombuwua promised to do everything within his powers and ability to succeed and make the state proud.

BENUE STATE HOUSE Of ASSEMBLY CONFIRMS TOMBOWUA AS BSIEC CHAIRMAN

The Benue State House of Assembly today (Friday 2nd August 2024) confirmed
Governor Hyacinth Alia's nominee Barr. Richard Terlumun Tombowua for appointment as Chairman, Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC).

The Governor had in a correspondence to the Speaker of the Assembly Chief Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh, which was read on the floor of the house during Plenary by the Honourable Speaker sought the confirmation of Barr.Tombowua as the new chairman of BSIEC.

Barr. Tombowua, hails from Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.

A*o during Plenary, the house summoned the Chairman, Local Government Service Commission to appear before the leadership of the house on Monday, to update the leadership on the appointment process.

Moving a motion calling on the chairman to appear before the house leadership, Member representing Vandeikya 1 State Constituency Hon. Mathew Damkor informed the house of irregularities in the appointments at the local government level.

Hon. Damkor noted that the appointments were not in line with the laws guilding the commission.

The house resolved that the chairman of the commission should appear on Monday 5th August,2024, to provide updates on the regularization of appointments at the local government level, explain the measures taken to address irregularities and ensure compliance with established procedures.
