Spraying Naira at parties, stepping on it while dancing (“matching”), squeezing, tearing, or mutilating the currency can earn you up to 6 months imprisonment in Nigeria.

Under Section 21 of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act 2007, abuse of the Naira is a punishable offence.

So yes—what looks like celebration at a party can become a criminal case in court.

Respect the Naira—it is the nation’s legal tender, not party decoration.
