BOSASEB UPDATES: MAGUMERI LGA CHAIRMAN COMMENDED FOR EDUCATION SUPPORT

The Honourable Commissioner, Borno State Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe, has commended the Chairman of Magumeri Local Government Council, Prof. Ali Lawan Yaumi, for his commitment and sustained support towards the development of education in the Local Government Area.

The Commissioner made the commendation during the flag-off of the 2026/2027 School Enrolment Drive organised by the Magumeri Local Government Council.

The initiative featured the distribution of free textbooks, school uniforms, school bags and other learning materials, alongside a one-meal-a-day school feeding programme and free transportation for students from adjoining communities, aimed at improving school enrolment, attendance , retention and Completion.

The programme was attended by the Executive Secretary of the Borno State Arabic and Sangaya Education Board (BOSASEB), Dr. Abdulkadir Abdulkarim Harun, who commended the Magumeri LGA Chairman for his commitment to education, particularly his support for and dedication to strengthening Islamiyya education across the Local Government Area.

Dr. Harun also expressed his delight over an impressive Arabic-language presentation delivered by a student of Junior Secondary School, Magumeri, describing the performance as an encouraging demonstration of students’ growing interest and proficiency in Arabic language and Islamic education.

The occasion brought together government officials, traditional rulers, education stakeholders, community leaders, parents and students, reflecting a strong collective commitment to advancing quality, inclusive and accessible education in Magumeri LGA.

ZULUM COMMISSIONS TWO MEGA SCHOOLS, FLYOVER AND ROAD PROJECTS IN MAIDUGURI

Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has commissioned two newly constructed mega schools, a 9-span flyover, a 2.5-kilometre dualised road and a 5-kilometre drainage network in Maiduguri.

The commissioning ceremony, held on Sunday, was graced by the Governor of Nasarawa State and Special Guest of Honour, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, who performed the symbolic cutting of the tape.

The two commissioned schools — Larawaram Community Senior Secondary School and Shehu Sanda Kyarimi I Primary and Junior Secondary School — are part of the Borno State Government’s sustained investment in rebuilding and expanding educational infrastructure across the state.

The Executive Secretary of the Borno State Arabic and Sangaya Education Board (BOSASEB), Dr. Abdulkadir Abdulkarim Harun, was also in attendance during the commissioning of the schools, alongside other senior government officials and education stakeholders.

Speaking at the occasion, Governor Zulum reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to closing the infrastructure gap in the state and ensuring that children have access to quality education.

He noted that more than 120 mega schools have been constructed across Borno State, while significant investments have also been made in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

Governor Zulum further disclosed that the administration has established 5 Vocational Enterprise Institutes, reactivated 11 Vocational Training Centres and established 3 Second Chance Skills Entrepreneurship Schools for women and girls.

The projects represent another significant milestone in the ongoing reconstruction, recovery and development efforts of the Borno State Government, with education remaining a major priority in rebuilding the future of the state

BOSASEB Executive Secretary Attends Back-to-School Campaign Flag-Off in Konduga

The Executive Secretary of the Borno State Arabic and Sangaya Education Board (BOSASEB), Dr. Abdulkadir Harun, has attended the flag-off ceremony of the Back-to-School Campaign held in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State.

The campaign was officially flagged off by the Borno State Commissioner for Education, Science and Innovation, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe, as part of efforts to encourage school enrolment, promote education, and ensure that children across the state return to school for the new academic session.

The initiative is aimed at mobilising parents, communities, traditional leaders, and other stakeholders to support children’s education and ensure that every child of school age has the opportunity to access quality education.

BOSASEB FOCUS: AL-AZHAR INSTITUTE SCHOLARSHIP BENEFICIARIES TO RECEIVE US$1,000 EACH
The Borno State Arabic and Sangaya Education Board (BOSASEB) has commenced the implementation of the scholarship approved by His Excellency, Prof. Engr. Babagana Umara Zulum, mni, FNSE, CON, the Executive Governor of Borno State, for twelve (12) outstanding beneficiaries of Mustapha Umar El-Kanemi Al-Azhar Institute, Maiduguri, who have secured admission to Al-Azhar University, Cairo, Egypt.

The general public may wish to recall that on Tuesday, 7th September 2026, the Executive Secretary of BOSASEB, Dr. Abdulkadir Abdulkarim Harun, formally informed the parents, guardians, management and teaching staff of the Institute that His Excellency the Executive Governor had graciously approved the scholarship support for the twelve (12) beneficiaries.

While four (4) beneficiaries have already departed for Cairo, the remaining eight (8) beneficiaries, who are currently awaiting their visas and completing other necessary travel arrangements, have now received US$1,000 each to support their educational and initial settlement needs.
The presentation took place on 10th September 2026, at the Conference Hall of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) in the presence of two Permanent Secretaries from the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), the Executive Secretary of BOSASEB, the Principal of Mustapha Umar El-Kanemi Al-Azhar Institute, parents, guardians, teachers and other relevant stakeholders.

Speaking during the presentation, the representative of the Secretary to the State Government commended His Excellency Governor Babagana Umara Zulum for the scholarship initiative, describing it as a significant investment in the future of Borno State and in the development of competent young scholars.
He advised the beneficiaries to recognise the opportunity as a responsibility rather than merely a privilege, urging them to remain disciplined, focused and committed to their studies.
He further encouraged the students to uphold the good name of Borno State, their families and Mustapha Umar El-Kanemi Al-Azhar Institute throughout their stay in Egypt.
He also urged them to respect the laws, culture and academic regulations of Egypt, maintain good conduct, and make effective use of their time at Al-Azhar University.

He emphasised that the Government expects the beneficiaries to return with knowledge, skills, character and experience that will contribute meaningfully to the educational and socio-economic development of Borno State.
The Executive Secretary of BOSASEB, Dr. Abdulkadir Abdulkarim Harun, expressed profound appreciation to His Excellency the Executive Governor for approving the scholarship and providing the beneficiaries with the opportunity to pursue higher education at one of the world's renowned Islamic institutions.
He noted that the initiative demonstrates the Governor's commitment to human capital development, Arabic and Islamic education, and the advancement of young people from Borno State.
Dr. Harun urged the beneficiaries to take their studies seriously and to understand that the Government's investment in them comes with expectations.

He advised them to maintain discipline, academic excellence and good character, adding that they should endeavour to acquire both religious and contemporary knowledge that would enable them to contribute to the development of Borno State upon completion of their studies.
The Executive Secretary also appreciated the parents and guardians for their continued support and cooperation, while commending the Principal, teachers and management of the Institute for their efforts in preparing the students for higher education.

The Principal of Mustapha Umar El-Kanemi Al-Azhar Institute Maaji Muhammad Muhammad expressed appreciation to His Excellency the Executive Governor for the scholarship intervention and to the Secretary to the State Government for facilitating the implementation of the approved support.
He described the scholarship as a great encouragement to students of Arabic and Islamic studies, noting that the opportunity would motivate other students to pursue academic excellence.
The Principal advised the beneficiaries to remain focused, obedient and disciplined, stressing that they are now representatives of their families, the Institute and Borno State.
He urged them to make their parents and the State proud by demonstrating excellent academic performance and exemplary character at Al-Azhar University.

Speaking on behalf of all the parents and guardians, Mustapha Abba Dahir who served as a representative to parents expressed profound gratitude to His Excellency Prof. Engr. Babagana Umara Zulum, mni, FNSE, CON, for approving the scholarship and providing financial assistance to the beneficiaries.
He described the intervention as a historic and life-changing opportunity for the children and their families, noting that studying at Al-Azhar University has been a long-standing aspiration for many of the students.

The parent also appreciated the Secretary to the State Government, the BOSASEB Executive Secretary, the Principal, teachers and all officials involved in facilitating the scholarship and travel arrangements.
He assured the Government that the parents would continue to guide and support the beneficiaries to ensure that they remain focused on their studies and uphold good conduct.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mujitaba Mu'azu expressed heartfelt appreciation to His Excellency, Prof. Engr. Babagana Umara Zulum, mni, FNSE, CON, for the scholarship opportunity and financial support provided to enable them pursue their studies at Al-Azhar University, Cairo.
He described the intervention as a great privilege and a life-changing opportunity, saying that the support would significantly ease the challenges associated with travelling and commencing their studies abroad.

Mujitaba Mu'azu also expressed appreciation to the Secretary to the State Government, the Borno State Arabic and Sangaya Education Board, the Executive Secretary, the Principal, teachers, parents and guardians for their guidance, encouragement and support.
He assured the Government and all stakeholders that the beneficiaries would remain focused on their studies, uphold discipline and good character, and serve as worthy ambassadors of Borno State and Nigeria.
He further pledged that the beneficiaries would make maximum use of the opportunity by acquiring knowledge and skills that would enable them to contribute meaningfully to the development of Borno State and the country upon their return.
On behalf of his colleagues, he prayed for Allah to reward His Excellency the Executive Governor and everyone who contributed to making the scholarship opportunity possible.
The scholarship initiative represents another important milestone in the development of Arabic and Islamic education in Borno State, providing young scholars with access to internationally recognised higher education.

With twelve (12) beneficiaries approved for the scholarship, four already in Cairo and eight receiving US$1,000 each while awaiting their visas and final travel arrangements, BOSASEB continues to demonstrate its commitment to creating educational opportunities for learners in the State.

CLOSING CEREMONY OF FIVE-DAY CAPACITY-BUILDING TRAINING FOR ISLAMIYA TEACHERS

Today, 4th September 2026, Dr. Muhammad Ibrahim, representing the Executive Secretary of the Borno State Arabic and Sangaya Education Board, Dr Abdulkadir Abdularim Harun attended the closing session of the five-day capacity-building training for Islamiya teachers, held at the Baba Gana Wakil Integrated School for Higher Islamic Studies, Maiduguri.

The training was organized by the Old Students’ Association of Al-Azhar University, Cairo, with the aim of strengthening the professional capacity, teaching skills, and academic competence of Islamiya teachers, particularly in the areas of Arabic, Islamic and Qur’anic Studies.

During the closing ceremony, Dr. Muhammad Ibrahim delivered a Vote of Thanks on behalf of the Executive Secretary, expressing sincere appreciation to the organizers for their commitment, initiative, and valuable contribution towards improving the quality of Islamic and Arabic education in Borno State.
He particularly commended the Old Students’ Association of Al-Azhar University, Cairo, for successfully organizing the programme in a professional, well-structured, and impactful manner. He noted that such capacity-building initiatives are highly commendable and deserve continued support and encouragement.
He further conveyed the appreciation of the Board and acknowledged the efforts of the facilitators, participants, organizers, and all stakeholders whose contributions made the training a success.
The Board looks forward to continued collaboration with the Association and other relevant stakeholders in promoting quality Arabic, Islamic and Qur’anic education across Borno State.

BOSASEB FOCUS: AL-AZHAR INSTITUTE SCHOLARSHIP BENEFICIARIES TO RECEIVE US$1,000 EACH

The Borno State Arabic and Sangaya Education Board (BOSASEB) has announced the provision of One Thousand US Dollars (US$1,000) to each of the twelve (12) scholarship beneficiaries of the Mustapha Umar El-Kanemi Al-Azhar Institute, Maiduguri, who have secured scholarships to further their studies at Al-Azhar, Cairo, Egypt

The parents and guardians of the beneficiaries, the Principal of the Institute, the scholarship beneficiaries and other relevant stakeholders were received by the Executive Secretary of BOSASEB, Dr. Abdulkadir Abdulkarim Harun alongside Directors of the Board.

Addressing the parents and guardians, the Executive Secretary explained that the **Chairman of BOSASEB, Khalifa Aliyu Ahmed Abulfathi**, facilitated the provision of the **US$1,000 support for each of the 12 beneficiaries** from **His Excellency, Professor Engr. Babagana Umara Zulum, the Executive Governor of Borno State**, who graciously approved the financial support to assist the students in their educational journey to Egypt.

The Executive Secretary further stated that the **US$1,000 will be presented to each beneficiary two days before their departure from Maiduguri to Cairo via Abuja**, to enable them adequately prepare for the journey and their studies.

Dr. Harun commended **His Excellency the Executive Governor** for his continued commitment to the development of **Arabic, Islamic and Qur’anic education** and for creating opportunities for young people from Borno State to pursue quality education. He also appreciated the **BOSASEB Chairman** for facilitating the intervention and ensuring that the needs of the beneficiaries were brought to the attention of the appropriate authority.

In response, **Prof. Muhammad Mu’azu**, a parent of one of the beneficiaries, spoke on behalf of the other parents, guardians and teachers of the **Mustapha Umar El-Kanemi Al-Azhar Institute**. He expressed profound appreciation to **His Excellency the Executive Governor, the BOSASEB Chairman, the Executive Secretary and the Management of the Board** for the financial support and their efforts towards providing the students with the opportunity to pursue further studies at Al-Azhar.

BOSASEB FOCUS: SHEHU OF BORNO PRESENTS SYMBOLIC CHEQUE TO OVERALL WINNERS OF 41ST STATE ANNUAL QUR’ANIC RECITATION COMPETITION – 2026.

The Borno State Arabic and Sangaya Education Board (BOSASEB) has successfully held the Prize-Giving Ceremony of the 41st State-Level Annual Qur’anic Recitation Competition – 2026, bringing together Islamic scholars, traditional rulers, government officials, parents, teachers, participants and well-wishers to celebrate excellence in Qur’anic education.

A major highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of symbolic cheques by His Royal Highness, Dr. Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Al-Amin El-Kanemi, the Shehu of Borno, to the overall winners of the competition: Muhammad Babagana Aji Kolo of Jere LGA and Fatima Harun of Kala-Balge LGA, with each winner receiving the sum of ₦500,000.00. The Shehu expressed his pride in their outstanding performance and encouraged them to remain committed to the study, memorisation and practice of the Glorious Qur’an as they prepare to represent Borno State at the 2026 National Qur’anic Recitation Competition (National Musabaka) in Jigawa State.

In his welcome address, the Chairman of BOSASEB, Dr. Khalifa Aliyu Ahmed Abulfathi, congratulated all participants and commended their dedication to the Glorious Qur’an. He emphasised that the competition is not merely about winning prizes, but about encouraging young people to memorise, recite, understand and live by the teachings of the Qur’an.

The Board Chairman also expressed profound appreciation to His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Borno State,Prof. Engr Baba Gana Umara Zulum,mni,FNSE for his continued support and commitment to the development of Arabic, Sangaya, Islamiyya and Qur’anic education in the State. He further acknowledged the important role and sustained support of the Secretary to the Borno State Government Alhaji Bukar Tijjani in advancing Sangaya, Islamiyya and Qur’anic education and supporting initiatives aimed at improving educational opportunities for learners.
Dr. Abulfathi equally appreciated the Executive Chairmen and Education Secretaries of all 27 Local Government Areas of Borno State for their cooperation and contributions towards identifying, preparing and facilitating the participation of contestants from their respective LGAs. He noted that their collective support has contributed significantly to the successful and inclusive conduct of the State Qur’anic Recitation Competition.

The Secretary of the Council, Sheikh Tijjani Umar, also delivered a goodwill message, commending the contestants, parents, teachers and organisers for their commitment to Qur’anic education.
In his vote of thanks, the Executive Secretary of BOSASEB, Dr. Abdulkadir Abdulkarim Harun, appreciated the government, traditional institutions, Islamic scholars, parents, teachers, judges, organisers, the 27 LGAs, media organisations and all other stakeholders for their invaluable contributions to the success of the competition.
He further announced that BOSASEB will organise a special intensive training and camping programme for the 70 outstanding participants, aimed at strengthening their capacity and adequately preparing them for future national and international Qur’anic competitions.

The ceremony reaffirmed BOSASEB’s commitment to nurturing young Qur’anic scholars, promoting excellence in Qur’anic recitation and strengthening Arabic, Sangaya, Islamiyya and Qur’anic education across Borno State.
