"The Federal University Lokoja stands today at a critical point in its development. We face pressures familiar across the Nigerian university system: constraints in funding; demands for infrastructure; expectations around staff welfare; the tension between growth and quality; and the urgent need for credibility, stability, and relevance.
"We will not deny these realities. We will not dramatise them. And we will not surrender to them."

The Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Federal University Lokoja, has praised the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Gbenga Solomon Ibileye, for his proactive and responsive leadership since his assumption of office in February 2026. The commendation was made during a strategic advocacy visit to the Vice-Chancellor by the faculty elders and senior academics led by the acting Dean, Engr. Professor Kayode Joshua Simonyan.
The meeting was part of the facultyโs strategic engagement with the university management to ensure a smooth outing in the 2026 accreditation exercise, as well as guarantee the future of the engineering programmes in the university, as preparations for the important exercise begin in earnest.
In his address during the visit, the acting Dean of the Faculty congratulated Professor Gbenga Ibileye on his well-deserved appointment as the 4th Vice-Chancellor and expressed confidence that under his visionary leadership, Federal University Lokoja would reach new heights of academic and administrative excellence.
Speaking on the facultyโs trajectory since May 27, 2021, when the Senate of the university approved its establishment, Professor Simonyan noted that the bold move has taken physical shape and advanced to a โpoint of no return.โ He said the pioneer students of the faculty are now in their 300-level, assuring the Vice-Chancellor that they are more committed than ever to seeing the vision flourish as dedicated stakeholders in the legacy of the university.
Some of the progress and key milestones achieved by the faculty, as outlined by the Dean, include the successful transitioning to an Outcome-Based Education (OBE) model, hosting of a validation meeting with stakeholders to align the program objectives with industry needs, and a comprehensive audit of the facultyโs current status versus the requirements for world-class accreditation.
He added that the faculty had already established strategic partnerships with key organisations, including NASENI, NIWA, and industrial hubs in Itakpe and Ajaokuta, while mock accreditation was being organized by the faculty mentors to ensure that key requirements are met in preparation for the COREN pre-accreditation visit in June and NUCโs accreditation later in October.
Professor Simonyan, however, highlighted some of the challenges and pressing needs of the Faculty of Engineering, calling for managementโs urgent intervention to ensure a successful accreditation of its programmes and smooth running of the fledgling faculty.
He thanked the Vice-Chancellor and other principal officers for their continued support for the faculty, which he described as the pride of any university. โWe have the students, the brilliance, and the willโwe now ask for the tools to secure our professional standing,โ he added.
In response, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Gbenga Ibileye, thanked the delegation for their felicitations on his appointment and commended the faculty members for their sacrifices, dedication, and continued support that have ensured the programmes thrive despite the teething challenges.
