WHY YOU SHOULD LEARN EDTECH, EVEN IF YOU DON'T TEACH ONLINE
A friend of mine told me about a teacher who once thought EdTech was only for online tutors. She believed it had nothing to do with her because she was teaching in a physical school.
But things changed when her school got a new head teacher who introduced digital lessons, online assessments, and e-report cards.
Suddenly, everyone was expected to use PowerPoint for lessons and Google Classroom to track student performance.
She panicked. She didnβt even know how to create slides or record a short instructional video.
But instead of giving up, she decided to learn. She took a short EdTech course and started practicing.
Months later, this same teacher became the go-to person in her school for anything tech-related. She began to enjoy teaching more because technology made her lessons more engaging and her workload lighter.
And this is exactly how many teachers who have passed through my training have become in their physical workplaces.
They are now the go-to persons when it comes to EdTech-related tasks.
In fact, one of them told me recently how she got promoted because of the EdTech skills she gained from my trainings.
Thatβs what EdTech does. It boosts your teaching confidence, sharpens your creativity, and positions you for bigger opportunities.
You donβt have to be an βonline teacherβ to learn EdTech.
Whether you teach in a physical classroom or online, tech skills make you stand out, stay relevant, and become an indispensable teacher in this digital age.
Your confidence grows when your competence grows.
Thatβs the power of EdTech!
Registration is ongoing for the Online Teaching and EdTech Training starts tomorrow 1st of December.
Access fee is β¦10,000

3 AFFORDABLE TECH TOOLS SCHOOLS CAN USE TO BOOST CLASSROOM ENGAGEMENT.
One of the challenges schools face today is making lessons interesting and interactive. The truth is you donβt need expensive gadgets or students carrying phones to achieve this.
π―πππ πππ 3 ππππππ πππππ ππππππππ πππ πππ πππππ ππππ:
β
Canva (Free for Teachers): Teachers can create colorful charts, flashcards, and posters to explain difficult topics.
For example, a science teacher can design a quick diagram of the human heart, print it, and use it in class. This makes lessons more visual and engaging.
β
Google Classroom (Free for Schools): This tool helps teachers organize assignments, share notes, and communicate with students, even if itβs just through the schoolβs computer lab.
A teacher can upload homework once, and students can access it during their ICT period. This reduces stress and saves paper.
β
PowerPoint/Slides (Available on most computers): Teachers can use simple slide presentations to teach. Instead of writing everything on the board, they can prepare lessons in advance.
For instance, a history teacher can show pictures of Nigeriaβs independence events while explaining. This keeps students alert and curious.
These tools donβt require every child to have a phone. With just the teacherβs laptop and maybe a projector or printed copies, a school can transform its teaching approach.
Schools that invest in training teachers to use these tools often see more engaged students and better classroom participation.
Which of these tools do you think would work best in your school & which would you like to use first?
Drop your answer in the comments.

DEAR PARENTS, ONLINE CLASSES WORK BETTER WHEN YOU'RE INVOLVED.
Mummy Chioma rushed out for work that morning, just like any other weekday.
βChidera, your class is by 9, right? Iβve kept the phone on the table. Make sure you join,β she said as she quickly grabbed her bag and left.
But hereβs what the teacher saw when the class started,
β a sleepy child still in pajamas,
βa cartoon playing loudly in the background,
βa weak internet connection,
βno book or pencil in sight, and when the screen froze, no one was around to help.
Now letβs picture Davidβs house.
His mum took just 5 extra minutes before leaving:
βοΈ She made sure the phone was fully charged
βοΈ His books and pencil were ready
βοΈ She reduced noise and distractions around him
βοΈ She gave the teacher an adultβs number to call in case of issues
Same class, two different preparations, two different results.
Parents, especially if your child is between the ages of 3 and 9, they still need your support during online classes.
Online learning at this stage isnβt independent learning. It requires structure and guidance, just like physical school.
If youβre not at home, try to assign an adult who can help with things like:
β
Fixing network issues
β
Helping the child log in or stay on the app
β
Making sure they arenβt distracted
β
Ensuring they use the right materials
Some children have mistakenly left class halfway, clicked something wrong, or gotten stuck and didnβt know what to do, and their learning time was lost.
Older children, from 10 years and above, may cope better on their own, but early years and primary school kids need some supervision to get the best out of online learning.
So hereβs how you can help your child succeed:
β
Charge the device before class
β
Provide writing materials ahead of time
β
Reduce background noise and distractions
β
Set up a quiet space, even if itβs just a corner of the room
β
Be reachable or assign someone who can assist when necessary
When parents and teachers work hand in hand, the results are always better.
Letβs work together to help your child thrive, one class at a time.
As a parent, did you learn something from this post?

BRANDING IS MORE THAN A FLYER OR A NAME.
Last month, I shared a post on branding and saw quite a number of people sharing their flyers and saying, βThis is my brand.β
Let me gently correct that notion.
A flyer is not your brand.
Your name is not your brand.
Your logo is not your brand.
Branding is WHO YOU ARE.
Itβs the experience people associate with you.
Itβs what people say about you when youβre not in the room.
Itβs the feeling your work leaves behind.
Yes, your flyer, logo, colors, and name are part of your branding, but they are not the full picture.
β
How you show up consistently
β
The value you offer
β
The emotions your work creates
β
The problems you solve
β
The perception people have of you-thatβs branding.
So, whether youβre a teacher, nurse, writer, or content creator, remember this:
Your brand is YOU -expressed through everything you do.
So,I ask you, What is your brand saying about you?

Few years back, when I started teaching online, all I had was my smartphone, earphones, and Zoom.
No ring light. No fancy background.
Just me, my students, and the will to make it work.
One day, while teaching a class, the light went off. My room went dark and I had no backup.
I tried to keep going, but my student could barely see me.
After that class, her mum messaged me.
She said, βMa, my daughter enjoys your teaching, but your video quality is too poor. Please work on it.β
That hit me.
I knew I was a good teacher.
But online teaching is more than knowledge.
It is about presentation, clarity, and tech confidence.
So I made a decision.
I would learn and upgrade, one tool at a time.

No clutter. Just you and your message. A plain wall or virtual background works fine.
I didnβt buy everything at once.
I started with what I had and grew as I earned.
You can do the same.
Being tech-savvy isnβt about owning everything.
It is about knowing what matters most and using it well.
If youβre just starting or unsure about what tools to use, you are not alone.
Iβve been there.
And Iβm here to help you show up online like the excellent teacher you are.
Letβs make your online classroom better, one tool at a time.

When I started teaching online, I thought it would be easy.
Just open Zoom, teach what I know, and get paid.
I quickly realised I was wrong.
Let me tell you the truth.
Online teaching is a skill on its own.
And many teachers make the same mistakes I made in the beginning.
Here are the top 3 mistakes new online teachers make (and how to avoid them):
1. π»πππππππ ππππ πππππππππ πππππ ππππ ππππ ππππππ
You are a great teacher in class.
But online, students get distracted easily.
If you donβt adjust your style, use visuals, ask questions, share screen, or include activities, theyβll lose interest fast.
Online teaching needs more energy, more planning, and more interaction.
2. π°πππππππ ππππ πππππ
Some new teachers show up with poor lighting, background noise, and unstable network.
This affects how people see you and how much they trust your service.
You donβt need expensive tools, but you need to look and sound clear.
Start small, but start right.
3. πΌππ
πππππππππ ππ ππππππππ ππππ πππππππ πππ πππ ππππ
I once spoke to a lady who had just started teaching online.
She told me she offered to teach two kids in diaspora for free, just to test her skills.
She kept doing it for months without asking for a single payment.
I was shocked.π₯Ήπ¦
I asked her, βSo youβre using your data, spending your time, and not earning anything?β
Itβs okay to charge a small amount when you're starting.
But free forever? Thatβs a no.
Even if you want to test your ability, make it time-bound.
One month is enough to build your confidence and gather feedback.
After that, charge something.
Value your time and effort.
You are not just practising, you are working.
I made these mistakes, and it cost me time and confidence.
But once I learned better, I showed up better, and my students stayed.
If you are just starting or thinking of switching to online teaching, learn from my journey and hers.
You donβt have to struggle alone.
Ready to teach online with confidence and get paid for it?

Managing student behavior in an online class can be tricky, but with the right strategies, itβs possible to create an engaging and respectful learning environment.
Here are some tips to help:
1. Set Clear Expectations from the Start
Begin your class by outlining the rules and expectations. Let students know how to ask questions, when to unmute, and what is considered inappropriate behavior. Clear guidelines set the tone for the class.
2. Keep Students Engaged
Engagement reduces the chances of disruptive behavior. Incorporate interactive activities, games, or polls to keep students focused. Use visuals, videos, or even props to capture their attention.
3. Use Positive Reinforcement
Acknowledge and reward good behavior. A simple "great job" or virtual applause can motivate students to stay on track. Positive feedback encourages others to follow suit.
4. Maintain a Professional but Approachable Tone
Be firm yet friendly. Students are more likely to respect a teacher who balances authority with empathy. If a student acts out, address the issue calmly and privately if necessary.
5. Have a Backup Plan for Disruptions
Technical issues or misbehavior can happen. Be prepared with contingency plans, such as muting disruptive students or using breakout rooms for one-on-one conversations.
By applying these strategies, you can foster a positive online learning environment that benefits both you and your students.
What strategies do you use to handle online classroom behavior?
Let me know in the comments!
