We deeply regret to announce the sudden passing of the younger brother of Prof. Ezra Shiloba Gbaje of the Department of Library and Information Science, Federal University, Lokoja, Kogi State. He passed away earlier today after a brief illness and has since been laid to rest.
May his soul rest in perfect peace.
RIP, Barr. J. S. Gbaje.

*PRESS RELEASE!!!*
The formal handing / taking over and orientation programme for the new Nigerian Library Association (NLA) Executive Council members was successfully held at the Board Room of the National Library of Nigeria, Abuja on Thursday, 18th August, 2022. The lmmediate Past President (lPP), Prof. lnnocent Ekoja, FNLA handed over the running of the affairs of the Association to the newly elected officers.
As part of the orientation activities put together by the Association, Hajia Neemat Abdulrahim, FNLA, a one time NLA Treasurer, addressed the gathering on NLA financial management while one time NLA President, Dr Victoria Okojie, FNLA provided a general orientation using the NLA Constitution as a guide.
All the newly elected Executive members ably led by Pastor Dominic Omokaro, FNLA, President, were present to effectively take over the running of the Association for the next three years ( 2022 - 2025).
The NLA Executive members appreciate the commitment and leadership qualities of the Immediate Past President, Professor Innocent Ekoja, FNLA and his Treasurer, Dr R. F. Quadri who attended the programme and ensured that necessary steps were taken to effect needed changes at the banks where NLA accounts are domiciled.
Other executive members at the programme are: Drs Lawal Umar, Vice President; Ogochukwu T. Emiri, Secretary; Juliet C. Alex-Nmecha, Treasurer; Amogu Uma Kalu, Financial Secretary and P. O. Olaojo, JP, FNLA, Public Relations Officer (PRO).
The immediate past Secretary, Omoh Atsenokhai also witnessed part of the sessions in her capacity as the Administrative Officer of the Association's Secretariat.
The meeting was an all day affairs which commenced at about 9:30am till about 10.00pm. Deliberations were fruitful and set the agenda for the new Executive Council to drive.
Departure for all Exco members is Friday 19th August, 2022.

The 60 years of existence of the Association will also be celebrated during the conference.

Last week Thursday June 16th, 2022 the Dubai bookstand- shaped library was opened for public.
1- Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, prime Minister & Ruler of Dubai, build the World Standard library that cost Dh1 billion ( $273.3Million).
2- The Mohammed bin Rashid library spread across seven floors has nine Specialized libraries with more than a Million print and digital books: General library; the Emirates library; the Young Adults library; the children library; the Special Collection library; the Maps & Atlases library; the Media & Arts library, the Business library and the periodical library.
3- The library has more than Six Million Research Articles, 73,000 Music scores, 75,000 Videos, nearly 13,000 articles, and more than 5,000 historical print and digital journals. There are also about 35,000 Print and digital newspapers from around the world.
4- The Building been designed in the form of a wooden stand known as a Rahila; with a total area of 54,000 Square Metres.
5- The library is also an environmentally friendly library, getting 10% of its from SOLAR PANELS installed on the roof. The EXTERNAL STRUCTURE is designed to insulate the building’s interior, reduce heat gain and help regulate the internal environment. The library ceiling Windows allow NATURAL LIGHT IN, and the shape is designed to reduce water consumption by 50 percent. Water is recycled from air conditioners to irrigate green spaces.

The library will use the latest Technology & Artificial Intelligence, including automated storage and an electronic book retrieval systems, self- service kiosks a book digitization laboratory and smart robots to respond to visitors’ inquiries.
Things are happening in the world. Why we in the World African countries we are not on Track. We failed to recognized and positioned our Educational Sector. A good example in our Country the public University are on strike for over 4months. We are not investing in our Tertiary Schools Library and Research Centers. We are yet to start Digitalization of our Research Documents and We are yet to rollover Internet Access Deployment to our Tertiary Schools.
