“The fact that we got to meet Dangote.”
As part of their Operations Management course, our Modular MBA 9 class visited the Dangote Refinery, one of the most ambitious industrial projects in the world.
They moved through the entire operation.
From the jetty terminal, where crude arrives by sea, through the full process flow from intake to storage, across the vast tank farm where capacity planning becomes real, and into the quality control lab where every barrel is tested.
They watched live gas flaring.
They saw safety systems in action, holding together one of the most complex industrial facilities on the continent.
One student captured it perfectly:
“When you read about it in the newspaper, it feels smaller. Seeing it in person makes everything we learn in class real.”
And then, something unexpected happened.
Aliko Dangote walked in.
He spoke with them about the vision behind the refinery, the scale of the investment, and its implications for Africa’s future.
More importantly, they asked him real, direct questions.
That is the part no case study can replicate.
Another student said, “I didn’t expect this level. It opened up my mind to possibilities… to what I should be thinking about.”
For many, it was also a moment of pride. Seeing something of that magnitude built in Nigeria, by a Nigerian.
This is the difference between learning about business and experiencing it.
When you sit across from someone who has built at that scale, something shifts. You begin to see what is actually possible. More importantly, you realise these rooms are not out of reach.
They are part of your journey.
