The Question We Should Be Asking

“What will happen to my child when I am no longer here?”

For many parents raising children with special needs, this is a question that quietly lives in the background.

It may not be discussed every day.

But it is there.

And it deserves more than fear.

It deserves a plan.

We need to think beyond childhood.

Beyond therapy.

Beyond school.

Beyond the next developmental milestone.

We need to ask:

Can this child communicate their needs?

Can they make choices?

Can they develop meaningful skills?

Can they participate in their community?

Can they work?

Can they live with greater independence?

Can they contribute?

Preparing for the future should not begin when the child becomes an adult.

It should begin while they are still young.

And it cannot be the responsibility of parents alone.

Therapists, educators, healthcare professionals, employers, policymakers, organisations and communities all have a role to play.

This is why RISE Summit 2026: From Cradle to Contribution is important.

The FGGC Calabar old girls association trade fair started promptly at 9:00 a.m. and ended around 5:00 p.m.

Mr Gbenga, Mrs. Adeline, and Emmanuel attended the fun fair. It was a good opportunity to create more awareness about the Centre, engage with people, and tell them more about the work we do and the services we provide.

We were able to connect with more people and introduce them to what we do.
