Our Welcome Centre in Victoria Island is now a place where families can meet our team, ask the questions that matter, and begin to imagine what a Wellington education could mean for their children.​​

The Senior School years are when academic study becomes more focused and purposeful. Students choose IGCSE subjects that align with their strengths and interests, engage with more complex ideas across disciplines and begin identifying the areas where they excel.​

Teaching becomes more specialised and intellectually demanding. Students learn to analyse, debate and think critically. University and career guidance begins early, helping students connect what they're learning to future possibilities. Meanwhile, they develop depth in their chosen subjects as they discover new talents and passions in sport, the arts or leadership. ​

Our Junior School is where the curiosity of the Early Years grows into something more structured. Students begin to engage with learning in deeper, more connected ways.​

Teaching follows a concept-led approach, so rather than treating subjects as separate silos, children think across disciplines, make meaningful connections and apply what they know to real-world situations. They gain strong foundations in English, mathematics and science alongside the humanities, computing, and design and technology, with specialist teaching in music, PE and languages.​

We've adapted the British curriculum to our Lagos setting, so students will also engage with Nigerian language, culture and identity through dedicated Nigerian and African Studies. As they progress, children take on more responsibility, learning to work both independently and alongside others, to communicate clearly and to face new challenges with resilience.​

By the end of Year 6, they're academically grounded, socially confident and
ready for Senior School, where they'll take greater ownership of their learning
and start shaping the direction it takes.​​

We are delighted to welcome Adam Shaw as our Director of Pastoral Care.​

Adam joins us with more than a decade of experience with Wellington College Education behind him. Having joined the founding team in Tianjin in 2011, Adam then moved to Shanghai as part of the College’s start-up team there. Over the following decade, he rose from deputy head into senior leadership as whole-school pastoral lead.​

Adam is, therefore, uniquely placed to lead a sustainable and adaptive pastoral framework designed to afford every child the opportunity to shine, to be challenged, and to be guided along every step of the way. Similarly, his experience helping develop and establish a wider school culture of togetherness — ambitious, forward-thinking, and contextually relevant — will be invaluable.

This summer, students from across the Wellington College Education family gathered at Wellington College for a two-week Summer School. Together, they built connections, exchanged ideas and shared perspectives with peers from around the world.

Through a rich programme of academic learning, including Global Sustainability Learning (GSL), students were encouraged to think critically and work as a team, growing more confident along the way.

Beyond the classroom, visits to London, Oxford and Portsmouth brought the UK's history, culture and heritage to life, creating memorable experiences and broadening horizons.

The most valuable part of the programme was not only what students learned, but the lifelong friendships they formed. These are connections that now span countries, cultures and campuses across the Wellington College Education family.

As Wellington College International Lagos prepares to welcome its founding families, we look forward to seeing young people in Nigeria become part of this dynamic global community. They will benefit from opportunities, experiences and relationships that connect them to peers and possibilities around the world.
