LET EXCELLENCE SPEAK, LET KNOWLEDGE LEAD!

Today, as always, our hearts overflow with pride as we celebrate the incredible students of Mahmud Ahmadiyyah College.
What makes this event extraordinary is not just the competition itself, but the young minds behind it. From the preliminary rounds to this grand finale, our Student Representative Council conceptualized, planned, coordinated, and executed this remarkable programme with only minimal guidance from their teachers.
They have shown us that leadership is not about age, it is about vision, responsibility, teamwork, and courage.

These students are not waiting for the future; they are building it today.
Through thoughtful discussions on "The Nigeria I Want to Inherit" and "Social Media: Building Voices or Killing Original Thought?", they are demonstrating critical thinking, patriotism, creativity, and intellectual excellence, the very qualities our nation needs.
At Mahmud Ahmadiyyah College, we do not merely teach students to pass examinations; we nurture leaders, innovators, problem-solvers, and change-makers.

The recent viral video of secondary school students celebrating the end of their WAEC exams has sparked widespread concern. Their behaviour, though perhaps not unusual in other contexts, is particularly troubling seeing these in uniforms and the expectations that come with being students.

This incident highlights a broader issue: the erosion of values and dignity in our society. Education should be about more than just academics; it should also be about character development and self-discovery. As role models, parents and teachers have a crucial role to play in shaping the next generation's values and behaviours.

While social media can amplify negative influences, we mustn't let it dictate our moral compass. Instead, let's focus on promoting positive values and behaviors. By modeling good behaviour, offering moral guidance, and working together to create a more wholesome environment, we can help restore sanity and dignity to our society.

Let's prioritize teaching our children the importance of respect, responsibility, and self-discipline. By doing so, we can empower them to become thoughtful, compassionate, and responsible individuals who will shape the future of our nation.

Why the Short School Break?

In the ever-demanding world of education, a short break in the academic calendar is not a luxury—it is a necessity. As our school prepares to take a brief pause, it is important to recognize the value of this interlude for all members of the educational community: teachers, students, and parents.

I really don't intend to make this lengthy, I know you don't want to read a long epistle 😆

Break is for mental refreshment, improved focus, away from structured learning to self discovery learning, to explore interests and encouraging holistic development.

It's a time for your children's teachers to rejuvenate, and regain energy. Pursue short professional development courses and/or workshops, or read professional literatures.

This little time off enables teachers to reconnect with family and friends, which in turn boosts morale and motivation.

Short break afford parents the opportunity for family bonding, especially for boarding students. Parents can monitor progress of their children's academic and emotional development and report back to the school as appropriate.

It's also an opportunity to shout a little and appreciate your child's teacher 😜

Let me quickly suggest some activities that can make this break both enjoyable and enriching.

*Reading Challenge – Hope you've stock the shelf with inspiring series and journals. If you haven't, any daily newspaper will do the magic (I love Punch). Make it a hard copy not phone

*Your house version of ‘’Maso’yinbo” a trending Yoruba show on social media

*Creative reasoning puzzles and quiz
to maintain curiosity and critical thinking. Tell them stories and things about your cultural heritage, it strengthens family history and values.

* Educational Games and Puzzles , boost cognitive skills in a fun way. Scrabble, chess or spelling bee.

*Daily Chores Rotation, this encourages responsibility and teamwork at home. Plan meals and cook together.

* Fitness Activities – tennis, daily walks and sports

*Voluntary Community Work – mosques cleaning or any other simple activity you can come up with to make them give to others without expecting returns.
At this junction, it’s important to emphasize that we understand the desire to keep your child ahead or continuously occupied with academic work, but we kindly ask for your support in honoring the purpose of this short break. Instead of extra textbooks and long hours of home lessons. Pleeeease allow our students to
Rest and sleep well,
Play and laugh freely,
Reflect on what they've learned,
Spend time with you in meaningful, low-pressure ways.
Let’s resist the urge to over-structure this short holiday, or just leaving them behind the screen. A well-rested child returns to school happier, healthier, and more ready to learn.
