Finding Peace in the Chaos:
Sometimes…
Sometimes, I want to scream my head off from a roof top
Sometimes, I want to sleep and never wake up
Sometimes I want to throw me off a cliff
Sometimes, I want to hug me and say, I love you
Sometimes, I want to buy me some hot crisp chips and say,
"Here’s for your fight that never ends."
Sometimes, I want to grab life and shake it till its out of breath
Sometimes I want to vent and kick and claw at fate
Sometimes, I want to smile at whoever’s up there,
Sometimes I want to say, thanks for being so kind to me
Sometimes I want to pick a gun and shoot and shoot and shoot
I want to shoot till I hit something, anything, anywhere and say,
At least you are doing something."
Sometimes I want to crash into the waves, flow with the tides
Sometimes, I want to stay still by the sea side
Maybe a cool evening breeze will calm this storm in my soul
Sometimes, I want to be someone else, something else, anyone else
Sometimes, there’s no one else I’d rather be but me
Sometimes, I want nothing, absolutely nothing, and say,
"It okay, not to be okay."
In 2015, one of my protégé, sent this poem to me and today, I still feel her pressure:
Sometimes, indeed, we just want to give up...
Sometimes, indeed, we just want nothing, cos we can't seem to get anything.
So I said to say to her, and to all who are in this "Sometimes"
Sometimes, I feel the same way to.... but then....
I tell myself it can't be forever....I'd hold on...
Amen.

Setback or Setup? How I managed one of the biggest disappointment in my training career.
I got a call from Asaba, Nigeria. They wanted me to do what I do best - Train and teach on Emotional Intelligence.
They said, there would be over 3,000 persons in attendance, and when I got there, I met only 14 persons.
For 3,000 persons, and since I was based in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, I mobilized over 30 volunteers, paid for hotels, moved over 5,000 copies of my books, rented two buses to move people to the location, and we all embarked on this 4 hours journey.
When I arrived the venue, I had more persons with me, than participants for the training.
I was confused. I felt betrayed. I felt stupid.
Yet, there were 14 persons still waiting to be trained!
So I got in, and poured out my soul, as though I was connecting with 3,000 persons.
At the end of the event, the organizers were nowhere to be found (only one of them showed up), I was left with so much debt, but I choose to hold my head up.
It's 9 years ago today, and I am not the man I used to be. I have been mightily blessed beyond my wildest dreams.
So, Was this a setback or a setup? I still don't know.
I just choose joy!

Change the Plan or Change the goal?
During my coaching sessions, it is often common to notice the client's dilemma of "them" vs "me" situation, or the "do I go-right" or "do I go left" ?
What if we are curious to explore "AND" instead of "OR"
What if we do not need to change the PLAN or the GOAL?
Perhaps, you need CONSISTENCY, rather than CHANGE...
Perhaps, you need PATIENCE, rather than PROGRESS.
Can we be curious to find more options that explores your true potentials?
Picture Insert: Poor cow (direct report) gets a bashing so that inflexible bear (manager) gets an award!
What do you think? (Perhaps the cow shouldn't have mocked the bear....) 😁

Celebrating 100th Coaching session!
When AT&T's Assistant Vice President, Amy Abert, showed up on 22nd September, 2022 for her 1st coaching session, I never could have expected such an incredible ride.
In the past 18 months, We have laughed, cried, and shared lots of silent moments. We have covered lots of coaching topics but more interestingly, we have created a safe space for growth, vulnerability and accountability.
One year into the journey, Amy Abert said, "I am so grateful for your feedback. You continually help me see my blind spots and put REAL plans in place to make progress on overcoming them. Through your coaching I am seeing things in myself I never thought possible. So grateful... Cheers my friend!"
Today and after 100 coaching sessions, she said, "I wish I met you earlier in my life. I am not the person I used to be. I am grateful and yet, we can yet grow."
Amy Abert is such a humble, focused, servant-leader, so we took out a cake an celebrated together.
Thank you, BetterUp for an incredible coaching platform that made this possible. Thank you, AT&T, for investing in growth opportunities for employees.
I am grateful that "one candle is brighter in some corner of the world."
Join me celebrate Amy.

Who can relate with this?
The expectation and the reality often doesn't match.
In the office, the relationship, or even at home, the expectations are often so crushed that it seems like you were deceived.
