SUMMARY REPORT OF TODAY'S WEEKLY GENERAL EDUCATIVE CLASS WITH BABAL'AGEGE 👇 ⬇️
📍 Summary of Baba Lagege General Class
📅 Date: 24/08/2026
❇️Maolidu Nabiy ﷺ
📌The class commenced, as usual, with praises to Almighty Allah and abundant salutations upon the best of mankind, our master Muhammad ﷺ, his noble household, his illustrious Companions رضي الله عنهم, and all those who follow them in righteousness until the Day of Judgment.
📌The Misuse of Baba Lagege’s Image
Sheikh Muhammad Habeebullah Al-Ilory called the attention of the public and some social media pages to the illegitimate use of his picture through AI-generated images, particularly where people alter his appearance by putting clothes on him that he does not wear. He stated that those responsible for such acts would be dealt with.
📌The Celebration of the Birth of the Prophet ﷺ
Baba Lagege said that many people describe the celebration of the birth of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ as Bidʿah (بدعة). They base this judgement on the Hadith:
كُلُّ بِدْعَةٍ ضَلَالَةٌ
“Every innovation is misguidance.”
He maintained that if this Hadith were understood in the unrestricted manner some people claim, then we would also have to reject the use of microphones, phones and many other things that were not present during the time of the Prophet ﷺ. This, he explained, shows that some people do not properly understand the meaning of Bidʿah and the application of the word كُلّ (every/all) in this context. According to the explanation attributed to scholars of Uṣūl al-Fiqh, the word كُلّ here can be understood in a qualified sense rather than meaning absolutely every newly introduced matter.
📌Baba Lagege maintained that celebrating the birth of the best of mankind ﷺ is not Bidʿah because there are indications and principles in the Qur'an and Hadith that support rejoicing over the favour and mercy of Allah, even if there is no explicit verse commanding a specific form of Maolid celebration.
Allah says:
{يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ قَدْ جَاءَتْكُم مَّوْعِظَةٌ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ وَشِفَاءٌ لِّمَا فِي الصُّدُورِ وَهُدًى وَرَحْمَةٌ لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ قُلْ بِفَضْلِ اللَّهِ وَبِرَحْمَتِهِ فَبِذَٰلِكَ فَلْيَفْرَحُوا هُوَ خَيْرٌ مِّمَّا يَجْمَعُونَ}
“O mankind, there has come to you an admonition from your Lord, and a healing for what is in the hearts, and guidance and mercy for the believers. Say: ‘In the bounty of Allah and in His mercy—in that let them rejoice. It is better than what they accumulate.’”
(Surah Yūnus, 10:57–58)
📌Baba Lagege noted that the Prophet ﷺ is the mercy referred to in this context, based on another verse in which Allah says:
{وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَاكَ إِلَّا رَحْمَةً لِّلْعَالَمِينَ}
“And We have not sent you except as a mercy to the worlds.”
(Surah Al-Anbiyāʾ, 21:107)
He therefore stated that Maolidu Nabiy ﷺ celebrations are lawful and permissible. However, he warned against prohibited practices that may accompany some celebrations, particularly the mixing of men and women in an impermissible manner and dancing together, which he stated are prohibited in Islam.
📌What Did the Prophet ﷺ Bring Besides the Qur'an?
Baba Lagege was asked whether the Prophet ﷺ brought anything besides the Qur'an. He replied that the Prophet ﷺ brought other teachings and guidance besides the Qur'an, while emphasizing that the Qur'an remains the ultimate and foundational revelation. He referred to authentic Prophetic Hadith concerning this matter.
📌The Prophet ﷺ and Governance
Baba Lagege was also asked about the new policies and procedures that the Prophet ﷺ introduced into governance?
He explained that there had been empires before the Islamic state established under the leadership of the Prophet ﷺ, such as the Roman Empire. He argued that the Prophet ﷺ did not establish his state simply through the sword, contrary to the impression some people may get from the imagery of swords displayed on the flag of the Saudi kingdom.
During his first ten years in Makkah, the Prophet ﷺ and his followers were persecuted, especially those who did not have powerful families to protect them, such as Bilal رضي الله عنه and the family of ʿAmmār رضي الله عنهم. The Prophet ﷺ eventually instructed some of his followers to migrate to Abyssinia (Habasha).
📌Even when the Prophet ﷺ later returned to Makkah with a large force of approximately ten thousand Muslims, he did not simply choose warfare. When the people of Makkah requested that they return the following year, he agreed to their terms and went back.
When he eventually entered Makkah, he went to the Kaʿbah and instructed his companions not to cut trees, not to kill women, children or elderly people, and that whoever remained inside his house should not be harmed.
The key to the Kaʿbah was taken from one of the unbelievers. After the Prophet ﷺ had performed his worship in the Kaʿbah, Allah revealed:
{إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَأْمُرُكُمْ أَنْ تُؤَدُّوا الْأَمَانَاتِ إِلَىٰ أَهْلِهَا وَإِذَا حَكَمْتُمْ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ أَنْ تَحْكُمُوا بِالْعَدْلِ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ نِعِمَّا يَعِظُكُمْ بِهِ ۗ إِنَّ اللَّهَ كَانَ سَمِيعًا بَصِيرًا}
“Indeed, Allah commands you to render trusts to whom they are due, and when you judge between people, to judge with justice. Excellent is that which Allah instructs you. Indeed, Allah is All-Hearing, All-Seeing.”
(Surah An-Nisāʾ, 4:58)
📌Baba Lagege explained that this demonstrates that the Prophet ﷺ came to win hearts and establish justice, rather than simply to conquer lands.
Even when some of his enemies were caught inside the Kaʿbah and brought before him, he released them and allowed them to go. Baba Lagege therefore asked: Who can say that the Prophet ﷺ came simply to kill?!
This does not mean that the Prophet ﷺ never issued commands concerning people who had committed grave atrocities; rather, Baba Lagege emphasized the broader mercy, justice and wisdom of the Prophet's ﷺ approach.
📌The Arabs Before the Prophet ﷺ
Sheikh Muhammad Habeebullah was asked about the Arabs before the coming of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
Baba Lagege replied that anyone who wants to understand the magnitude of the work accomplished by the Prophet ﷺ must study the condition of the Arabs before his coming.
He explained that some tribes could engage in prolonged warfare over seemingly minor disputes, such as a person's flock destroying another person's farmland. He referred to the famous pre-Islamic conflict of Dāḥis and Al-Ghabrāʾ, among other conflicts.
He also noted the practice of burying female infants alive simply because they were female.
Allah says:
{وَإِذَا بُشِّرَ أَحَدُهُم بِالْأُنثَىٰ ظَلَّ وَجْهُهُ مُسْوَدًّا وَهُوَ كَظِيمٌ يَتَوَارَىٰ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ مِن سُوءِ مَا بُشِّرَ بِهِ ۚ أَيُمْسِكُهُ عَلَىٰ هُونٍ أَمْ يَدُسُّهُ فِي التُّرَابِ ۗ أَلَا سَاءَ مَا يَحْكُمُونَ}
“And when one of them is given news of a female child, his face becomes darkened and he suppresses his grief. He hides himself from the people because of the bad news he has been given. Should he keep her in humiliation, or bury her in the ground? Certainly, evil is the judgement they make.”
(Surah An-Naḥl, 16:58–59)
📌Baba Lagege said that this was part of the condition of the Arabs before the Prophet ﷺ. He also observed that, even in the present day, some domestic workers in certain Arab countries are reportedly subjected to misuse and mistreatment.
He emphasized the tremendous transformation brought about by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. He pointed out that the Prophet ﷺ elevated Bilal رضي الله عنه to such a position that he was appointed to call the Adhān in a place where black people had previously not been welcomed.
📌How Did the Prophet ﷺ Produce Great Companions?
Baba Lagege was asked how the Prophet ﷺ was able to produce such great Companions from a society that had been characterized by ignorance, tribal conflict and other social problems.
He answered that the Prophet ﷺ trained and transformed people such as Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه, who purchased Bilal رضي الله عنه from slavery and set him free.
Baba Lagege also noted that Bilal رضي الله عنه was deeply affected by the death of the Prophet ﷺ and could no longer call the Adhān in the same way after the Prophet's passing.
Poetic Eulogies were read for the Prophet ﷺ…
📌The Position of the Prophet ﷺ Among Humanity
Baba Lagege was asked about the position of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in comparison with all the great people who had come before him.
Without hesitation, Baba Lagege replied that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ occupies the first position.
He noted that he was not the person who originally made this particular ranking. Rather, he referred to Michael H. Hart, a non-Muslim author who, in his book The 100: A Ranking of the Most Influential Persons in History, placed Prophet Muhammad ﷺ at the top of his list.
Baba Lagege said that anyone who claims that Prophet Muhammad ﷺ came to destroy the world is blind to the reality of his mission and does not properly understand his life and teachings.
📌The Qur'an and Modern Science
Baba Lagege also said that anyone who speaks wrongly about the Qur'an should study the works of Maurice Bucaille, the French physician and author.
He referred particularly to the discussion of human creation in the Qur'an, citing the verse:
{يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِن كُنتُمْ فِي رَيْبٍ مِّنَ الْبَعْثِ فَإِنَّا خَلَقْنَاكُم مِّن تُرَابٍ ثُمَّ مِن نُّطْفَةٍ ثُمَّ مِنْ عَلَقَةٍ ثُمَّ مِن مُّضْغَةٍ مُّخَلَّقَةٍ وَغَيْرِ مُخَلَّقَةٍ لِّنُبَيِّنَ لَكُمْ ۚ وَنُقِرُّ فِي الْأَرْحَامِ مَا نَشَاءُ إِلَىٰ أَجَلٍ مُّسَمًّى ثُمَّ نُخْرِجُكُمْ طِفْلًا ثُمَّ لِتَبْلُغُوا أَشُدَّكُمْ ۖ وَمِنكُم مَّن يُتَوَفَّىٰ وَمِنكُم مَّن يُرَدُّ إِلَىٰ أَرْذَلِ الْعُمُرِ لِكَيْلَا يَعْلَمَ مِن بَعْدِ عِلْمٍ شَيْئًا ۚ وَتَرَى الْأَرْضَ هَامِدَةً فَإِذَا أَنزَلْنَا عَلَيْهَا الْمَاءَ اهْتَزَّتْ وَرَبَتْ وَأَنبَتَتْ مِن كُلِّ زَوْجٍ بَهِيجٍ}
“O mankind, if you are in doubt about the Resurrection, then indeed We created you from dust, then from a sperm-drop, then from a clinging clot, then from a lump of flesh, partly formed and partly unformed, so that We may make clear to you Our power. And We settle in the wombs whatever We will for an appointed term, then We bring you out as children, then you reach your full strength. And among you is he who dies, and among you is he who is returned to the weakest stage of life so that, after having knowledge, he knows nothing. And you see the earth lifeless, but when We send down water upon it, it stirs and swells and produces every kind of beautiful plant.”
(Surah Al-Ḥajj, 22:5)
📌Baba Lagege stated that when Maurice Bucaille encountered discussions concerning the Qur'an and its statements about human creation, he studied the Qur'an and also examined the Bible. He compared what he regarded as scientific statements in both scriptures and concluded, according to his work, that the Qur'an was in harmony with established scientific discoveries in ways that he did not find in the Bible.
He subsequently authored the well-known work القرآن والتوراة والإنجيل والعلم — “The Qur'an, the Torah, the Gospel and Science” — referring to his broader study of the relationship between the Qur'an, Biblical scriptures and modern scientific knowledge.
Baba Lagege emphasized the conclusion that the Qur'an is free from contradiction and is not opposed to genuine scientific discoveries.
He concluded this section with the poetic line:
الفضل تقاسمه الرسل
والكل بأحمد مكتمل
“The virtues were shared among the Messengers,
and in Ahmad ﷺ, they are all perfected.”
📌Conclusion
The session concluded with special prayers for the soul of the great reformer of Islam, Sheikh Adam Abdullah Al-Ilory رحمه الله تعالى.
May Almighty Allah preserve Sheikh Muhammad Habeebullah Adam Al-Ilory (Baba Lagege) upon goodness, grant him sound health, increase him in beneficial knowledge, bless his efforts in the service of Islam, and continue to preserve Markaz and all those striving sincerely in its cause. Āmīn.
