is making Cooking more sustainable! When most people think of sustainability in skill competitions, they might picture solar panels being installed, electric circuits being wired for energy efficiency, or hybrid vehicles being maintained. But Cooking is emerging as an ambitious sustainability laboratory within WorldSkills, reflecting a broader global shift toward greener practices in the hospitality sector.
That transformation is being driven from WorldSkills Occupational Standards and the skill’s Technical Description.

UNESCO
Violence doesn’t stop at the school gate — it follows learners online.
On 6 November, the world marks the International Day against Violence and Bullying at School, including Cyberbullying, under the theme “Screen smart: Learning to be safe in the digital era.”
Every month, 1 in 3 learners experiences bullying and at least 1 in 10 faces cyberbullying. Children who are bullied are twice as likely to feel lonely or have trouble sleeping. Some even have thoughts of su***de. Online abuse creates a 24/7 loop of fear that follows learners from screens into classrooms. The risks are even greater for some learners: 58 % of girls and young women have faced online harassment, and LGBTQI+ learners are about 50 % more likely to be cyberbullied than their peers.
Online violence is not just a digital safety issue, it strikes at the very heart of education, undermining learners' health, well-being and participation, threatening their future and that of societies.
Education must be our frontline defence. UNESCO works with governments, schools and teachers to foster safe learning environments free from violence, train educators to recognize and respond to online violence, and strengthen policies so that learning spaces — physical and digital — are safe and healthy for all.

📢 Just published: Transformative TVET for the building and construction sector
As the building and construction industry continues to evolve, TVET systems must keep pace with the forces reshaping the sector — digitalization, greening and migration.
Employing around 7% of the global workforce and responsible for over 1/3 of global energy demand, the construction sector stands at the frontline of sustainable transformation.
Drawing on insights from the Bridging Innovation and Learning in TVET (BILT) Expert Group, case studies and literature from Africa, Asia and the Pacific, and Europe, the report analyses trends and provides recommendations for making TVET more inclusive, future-focused and resilient.

From classrooms to communities, girls are reshaping our world. Their empowerment begins with one foundation: education.
Since 1995, nearly 91 million more girls are now attending school, and women's enrollment in higher education has tripled. But the challenge is far from over: 133 million girls remain out of school, and despite representing the majority of primary school teachers, they remain underrepresented in education leadership.
Today, as we mark the , let’s pledge to redouble efforts to break down gender barriers in education.
From monitoring progress through “HerAtlas”, to advocating for gender-responsive policies and supporting countries to make schools safe and inclusive, UNESCO works every day to turn this commitment into reality. Learn more: https://www.unesco.org/en/days/girl-child

When data is missing, so is accountability.
The Africa edition of the 2025 shows a major barrier to progress: many countries lack the data needed to monitor their own education targets.
We must close these gaps.

Today’s World Teachers’ Day!
Teachers are the beating heart of education — and when they learn and work together, their impact is even greater. This year’s theme “Recasting teaching as a collaborative profession” is a call for strengthened collaboration as the backbone of the profession. Across every stage of a teacher’s career — from preparation to lifelong learning — collaboration is key.
Through co-teaching, joint reflection and partnerships, collaboration enables teachers to learn from one another and co-create solutions to improve learning. It strengthens teaching quality, boosts retention and helps shape classrooms where students can thrive — laying the foundation for equitable and resilient education systems worldwide.
Yet, gaps remain: 89% of primary teachers worldwide are qualified, but only 82% are trained. And while 73% of high-income countries require continuous professional development, only 14% of low-income ones do — leaving too many teachers without the support they need.
UNESCO is working to close these gaps for collaboration to become a norm. Because when teachers come together, education becomes stronger: https://www.unesco.org/en/days/teachers
