ICAN President Pays Courtesy Visit to Etsu Nupe, Commends His Exemplary Leadership

The President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Mallam Haruna Nma Yahaya, mni, Ph.D., FCA, led a powerful delegation of the Institute on a courtesy visit to His Royal Majesty, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, the 13th Etsu Nupe and Traditional Ruler of Bida Emirate.

Mallam Yahaya described the visit as both historic and symbolic, expressing gratitude for the warm hospitality of the Nupe Kingdom. He prayed for a long, peaceful, and prosperous reign for the monarch while commending his visionary leadership and immense contributions to education, healthcare, development, and national unity.

He noted that the visit was also part of activities for the Northern Zonal Conference of ICAN, explaining that it was only fitting to first pay homage to the revered throne of the Etsu Nupe, seeking royal blessings for the success of the conference.

Reaffirming ICAN’s commitment to accountability and transparency, the President highlighted the Institute’s Accountability Index, a tool designed to strengthen the management of public resources and reinforce the government’s anti-corruption drive.

He further spoke on ICAN’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations and the forthcoming 55th Annual Accountants’ Conference in Abuja, themed “Building Resilience – Aligning Reforms for Nigeria’s Development.” He extended an invitation to the Etsu Nupe to grace the landmark event, underscoring the value of partnership between Nigeria’s traditional institutions and professional bodies in shaping the nation’s future.

The powerful delegation concluded the visit with prayers for peace, unity, and prosperity in the Nupe Kingdom and Nigeria at large.

A Lasting Symbol of Excellence: ICAN Unveils the Bust of the doyen, Akintola Williams

At the unveiling of the bust honoring the late Mr. Akintola Williams, Chief Davidson Chizuoke S. Alaribe, FCA, Diamond President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), highlighted the importance of commemorating Mr. Williams' enduring legacy. He described Mr. Williams as a visionary whose historic achievement as Nigeria’s first Chartered Accountant opened doors for future generations. His resilience and unwavering dedication to excellence became a source of inspiration for the entire accounting profession.

Chief Alaribe further noted Mr. Williams' profound influence as a mentor, not only leading by example but also embedding the highest standards of ethical practice and leadership within the profession. The unveiling of the bust, he emphasized, represents more than a tribute; it serves as a lasting symbol and a call to action for future generations to uphold the values and principles established by Mr. Williams.

In closing, Chief Alaribe expressed heartfelt gratitude to all who contributed to the event and urged everyone to honor Mr. Williams' legacy by embodying integrity and professionalism in their everyday actions. The bust was officially unveiled by the Executive Governor of Lagos State, represented by the Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Abayomi Oluyomi, FCA, marking a momentous occasion in celebrating Mr. Williams' monumental contributions to both the profession and the nation.
