SIENNA INSTITUTE OF THEOLOGY FOR LAY PEOPLE

The 2016/17 Diploma in Theology and Pastoral Ministry course starts soon. The lectures holds in St. Martin's Room on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. Registered Students, intending participants and sponsors should please take note. Application forms are still available in the Parish Office or in the School.

Today we celebrate the feast of St Catherine of Siena. She was born in Italy in 1343. Catherine was the 24th child of her parents. It is reported that at the age of 7, following a vision of Christ, she vowed her virginity to God. Her mother wanted her to marry but she refused, she was persecuted. But her father gave her a room for herself for prayer and penance. She became a tertiary of the Dominican Order. She was very active in the service of God and neighbour. She nursed the sick, especially victims of plague and those suffering from the most distressing diseases. She ministered to condemned prisoners and gave spiritual counsel to a great many people who sought her guidance. Catherine was an extraordinarily determined woman. In her peace-making apostolate, she saw that the only way to resolve conflict, caused by the darkness of sin, was to let the light of God shine on the situation. She promoted the renewal of religious life and also composed works of doctrine and spiritual inspiration. Catherine was declared a doctor of the Church. May God enkindle the fire of divine love in our hearts and give us the grace to actively serve and love Him in our neighbour in an extraordinary way as Christ has loved us.
