Over time, I’ve learned something important working with trauma survivors:
Sometimes when clients disappear from therapy, it is not resistance, stubbornness, or lack of desire to heal.
Sometimes therapy itself begins to feel unsafe.
I once worked with someone who opened up gradually after years of holding everything in. Sessions were going well on the surface, but suddenly communication stopped. No explanation. No goodbye. Just silence.
Months later, the person eventually returned and admitted that therapy had started bringing up emotions they had spent years trying to outrun. Part of them wanted help deeply. Another part wanted to shut everything down and disappear.
That experience stayed with me.
Trauma often creates an internal conflict between:
“I want connection”
and
“Connection does not feel safe.”
This is why compassion matters so much in therapy work.
People do not always ghost because they do not care.
Sometimes their nervous system is simply overwhelmed and trying to protect them the only way it knows how.
Healing is rarely linear.
And sometimes, one of the most powerful things we can offer people is a safe space to return to without shame.

Stop comparing. Start connecting. 🧩✨
In child development, comparison isn’t just a thief of joy, it’s the enemy of progress.
After years of working with families, I’ve seen it time and again: no two children are ever the same, even if they show similar symptoms. One child’s "inattention" isn't the same as another’s. One child’s "late talking" has a different root than their peer’s.
Everything must be individualized.
The real breakthroughs happen the moment we stop looking at the "standard" and start looking at the unique child right in front of us.
Happy Monday to all the parents doing the hard, beautiful work of understanding their unique stars. You’ve got this. ❤️🇳🇬

You Cannot Pour from an Empty Cup: The Silent Burnout of the Special Needs Parent. 🕯️
It’s 4:30 PM. The traffic is building. You’re navigating the Gwarimpa or Lekki road network while your phone is buzzing with updates from school about your child's attention or a missed speech milestone.
By the time you get home, you are at 1% battery. But for you, the "second shift" is just starting. The routines, the behavioral resets, the speech exercises, it all requires immense patience and focus.
But where do you get that patience from? 🔋
As a psychologist, I see it every day: Caregiver wellness is NOT a luxury; it is part of the treatment plan. When you are stressed and exhausted, your ability to implement any intervention drops. Your rest isn’t "selfish", it is maintenance.
The Oxygen Mask Rule:
On an airplane, you are told to put on your own mask first before helping your child. The same applies at home. If the caregiver isn’t breathing, the child cannot thrive.
Let’s address the whole family:
The Parent: A 5-minute sit-down, a peaceful prayer, or a quiet cup of tea/malt drink isn't "lazy." It’s how you recharge for the next session.
The Sibling (The Glass Child): They see everything. They often feel they have to be "invisible" to not add to your stress. 10 minutes of dedicated 1-on-1 time for them makes a world of difference.
At Brain Diet Services, we believe a calm caregiver leads to a focused child. We don't just look at the diagnosis; we look at the family ecosystem.
