What happens when you invest in one entrepreneur?
Sometimes, the impact goes much further than the business you started with.
On August 24, our Director, Dr. Nneka Okekearu Nneka Okekearu joined Yetunde Akande YETROSELANE FASHION HUB|| Women’s Ready to wear in Lagos 🇳🇬 🇬🇧 𝒀𝒆𝒕𝒓𝒐𝒔𝒆𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒆 𝑭𝒂𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑨𝒄𝒂𝒅𝒆𝒎𝒚 at the graduation of the WEFash Impact Project , a particularly special moment for EDC because Yetunde is one of our alumni.
Yetunde came through the Oxfam in Nigeria Oxfam International X EDC Impact SME Programme, where she received tailored business development support, mentorship and investment-readiness training to strengthen her business and deepen its impact.
Today, she is paying that investment forward.
Through the WeFash Impact Project, Yetunde has created opportunities for young people to build skills and explore livelihoods within the fashion industry. With about 1,500 young people graduating from the project across these last years, the ripple effect is hard to miss.
This is why we believe SME development matters.
At Enterprise Development Centre, we work with partners across the world and within the African ecosystem to help entrepreneurs build stronger, more competitive businesses; businesses that can create jobs, solve real social and environmental challenges, and contribute to a stronger economy.
But perhaps one of the most rewarding parts is seeing what happens afterwards.
An entrepreneur who once received support becomes an entrepreneur creating opportunities for others.
As Dr. Nneka shared at the graduation:
“Someone who once came to learn is now creating opportunities for others to learn.”
That is the full circle.
And it is the kind of impact we want to see more of; entrepreneurs who grow their businesses, create opportunities and take other people with them.
We are proud of Yetunde and the thousands of young people whose lives are being shaped through the opportunities she has created.
