Abiotic (Ecology)

This is used to describe non-living components of the environment that influence life, such as wind pollination or in other words environmental features that are derived from inanimate factors which affects living organisms and functioning of the ecosystems. Examples of abiotic factors include water, light, temperature, soil, radiation and humidity.

Origin: Greek a- (without) + bios (life)

Word: Abaxial

Meaning: This describes the side of an organ away from the dorsal or an organ located on the side facing away from the axis. The term is usually used to denote the lower side or base of a leaf.

Origin: Latin ab- (away from) + axial (axis)
