Things You Have to Understand.

Realize that a majority of schools that offer scholarships do so because they have a big endowment. They have a big endowment because they are good. Since they are good they will not take whoever so you have to be good too.

Keep your CGPA up. Even if you are not coming from a top prep school but your transcript has lots of Honor classes the admissions committee will note that.

Get all materials. Almost every scholarship has these, so make sure you have them:

* Transcripts
* Test Scores
* Financial Aid Forms
* Financial Information, w/tax returns
* Scholarship Forms
* Essays or SOP
* Letters of Recommendation
* Proof of Eligibility
* Others requested by the sponsor
* You may have an interview.
Understand that in addition to academics, extracurricular activities can help. Be a leader in at least one high school club and do not forget to put that on your resume.

Remember, that if you are eligible, there are also sports scholarships available, and you might be interested in that depending on the sport.

Write a good personal statement. The personal statement should not be overly exaggerating and neither should it be condemning. It should be creative and attractive but should convey truthful facts about your academic and other interests. It should indicate to the scholarship provider what you will bring to the course and in what capacity you will provide for the community from which you come.
