Hey fam! It’s Wednesday.,
a reminder that society doesn’t change by accident—it changes when we question, reflect, and act

Have you ever wondered why one small idea suddenly becomes everywhere?
New slang, a dance challenge, a fashion style.once it enters society, it spreads like wildfire. But why?

Sociologists call this social contagion: the way behaviors and ideas spread through groups just like a ripple in water.

At the heart of it are three forces:

Social Proof
We look at others to decide what’s “normal.”
If many people are doing something, our brains assume it’s the right thing to do.

Belonging
Humans naturally want to feel included.
Adopting popular trends becomes a quick ticket into group identity and acceptance.

Visibility
The more we see an idea—online or offline—the more familiar and acceptable it feels. Familiarity breeds adoption.

So next time a trend takes over your feed, remember:
It’s not just fun or random…
It’s society in motion.

Life has a way of reminding us that society doesn’t pause simply because we do.
I’ve been away for a bit, caught up in the everyday realities that shape who we are — work, family, responsibilities, and the small routines that quietly influence our social behaviour.

Stepping back reminded me of something important: even in our busiest moments, we remain active participants in the social world. Our interactions, our silences, our presence and absence — they all communicate something.

I’m back, and I’m grateful to reconnect with this community.
Let’s continue exploring society, one thought at a time.

Scenario-Based Thought-Provoking Question (Identity & Society)

Imagine a young woman from Ijebu Ode who moves to Lagos to start her career.
At home, she dresses modestly, greets elders with respect, and speaks Yoruba freely. But in Lagos, her colleagues laugh when she bows or uses her local accent. Over time, she changes how she speaks, dresses, and even how she thinks — just to “fit in.”

Now here’s the question:

“When we change ourselves to adapt to society’s expectations, are we discovering who we truly are — or slowly becoming who society wants us to be?”
