The meeting opened with an opening prayer by Deacon S. Sholanke and the minutes of the last meeting was read by the Secretary with the Protem President presiding.
After the reading of the minutes was read, Deacon Sunday Sholanke made an observation to be included in the attendance. The minutes of the meeting was adopted by Deacon S. Sholanke and seconded by Femi Yesufu.
The President started by introducing Lucky Akpojotor (class of ’91) as well as a front runner in the quest for a better EGS, who was invited by Tony Okhae to take part and see how and partake in the general planning; the President went further to explain the various reactions concerning the draft constitution and especially the issue of one of our junior who has written a lot concerning the approach and step being taken concerning putting the old student association in the right course. Lucky at this point came in and shed some light on how the present arrangement came about and how far they have gone, although, it was stated that the way things are, there are two different bodies working separately with two different EGSOSA group on facebook.
At this juncture the Pioneer set stated categorically that it is not out to take glory from those that have started the whole programme and neither are we out to hijack the process of rebuilding our alma mata as this has always being our dream right from the day we erected the pillar in front of the school from our meagre resources as fresh secondary school graduates
The house therefore decided on the following:
1. It was agreed that all other site on facebook concerning Estate Grammar School be scrapped and a new one created by the exco
2. That the agreed that for progress sake, the aggrieved junior be called and spoken to as well as made to understanding the underlying reason for the existence of one Estate Grammar School Old Student Association (EGSOSA) and this the Protem President was asked to do
3. The advocacy visit be paid this week (1/3/2012) and the following people volunteered to go
a. Shina Gbenjo
b. Tony Okhae
c. Deacon Sunday Sholanke
d. Folusho Lawal
e. Rasheed Mustapha ( tentative)
4. That the next meeting be a general meeting of all old student, where all existing issues and pending ones will be discussed as it was agreed that it is necessary that we move fast in other for the school to feel our impact and if possible have an anniversary celebration and most importantly sort out the registration of our association with the final ratification and endorsement of the constitution by the general meeting, selection and appointment of other exco members. To this 11th March, 2012 was fixed tentatively and to be held within the school premises pending the outcome of the advocacy visit.
5. The need to have an official letter head was brought up and this Lucky promised to design and forward soonest as it was stated that one of the pioneer set has promised to undertake the printing at no cost to the association.
6. Based on the various concerns about membership, it was stated that it was a matter of semantics, but that the ‘Lagos and its environment’ be changed to ‘Nigeria and other parts of the world’ and that a committee be set up to draft out the rules and regulations for the association
After all deliberation, a motion for adjournment was raised by Jimoh Mustafa and seconded by Sunday Sholanke with closing prayer by Mrs Omowunmi Adetola (nee Oshode)
