Some people believe that it is not ideal for academics to take positions on political issues because they will use the office of trust to brainwash their subjects and drag them along the path they thought was correct. Others believe that academics have the moral duty to use their wealth of knowledge in guiding society towards making valid value judgements when it comes to political issues. How then do we ascertain the politically correct ideology? Should academics just keep their sentiments and subjective stance to themselves as matters of private concerns. Join us on Saturday, 19th February 2022 at ARN Webinar featuring: Prof. Emmanuel Remi Aiyede, HOD, Department of Political Science, University of Ibadan, Nigeria; and Asst. Professor Joan Ricart-Huguet, Loyola University Maryland; also at Yale University, USA. Registration Link:

Dear all,
We hope you are all well and healthy, despite the strange times we are living.
Almost a year ago we were about to meet in Leiden for the workshop: Digital Humanities, the perspective of Africa. We all would agree that the workshop at the Lorentz Centre was a wonderful experience that fostered new friendships and new collaborations within the space of DH in the African context. In order to build on the momentum generated during the workshop, DH2019 and the active whatsapp group for the Network for Digital Humanities in Africa, a few colleagues proposed a forum abstract for DH2020 in order to further conversations within this space.
Covid has had a major impact not just in the academic space but on all levels of society and it also had an impact on clarity on whether the DH2020 conference will continue. We now know that it will take place virtually form 22-24 July and forums and panels are encouraged to still run sessions that are self organised. For this reason we are reaching out to the Network for Digital Humanities in Africa with a proposed plan to further formalise and share what is happening in DH from an African perspective and even broader. We would like to invite you for a zoom meeting next week, please indicate your availability through the link sent to your email. We would like everybody to participate and be actively involved in the Africa forum at DH2020, so please feel free to share this message with other colleagues and help our DH network grow!
In preparation for the meeting, we have prepared a google document (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1o3JiAhixOdpfSXKMZpa_tMTxgeq9Xx5hDll5UMblAFc/edit?usp=sharing) with some explanations and action points. Please read it and feel free to add suggestions or volunteer for specific actions.
We are looking forward to meeting you all again!
Best wishes,
Felix Ameka, Tunde Ope-Davies, Sara Petrollino and
Juan Steyn
