ARE THERE NEGATIVE CONSEQUENCES OF LACK OF EDUCATION?
The negative consequences of lack of education are numerous. It can also impact negatively in the general well being of the person and the society. Here are some of the consequences:
1. Poor health
One common and early teaching in our primary schools is cleanliness. These teachings stay with the child all through life. How can you imagine a man in a public bus who after eating, kept on using his fingers to pull remnants from his teeth, then rubs his fingers together and repeats the same process over and over. Most surprising is the ignorance with which he did it in the public and not minding the feelings of other passengers and the likely chance of contacting some germs especially in this period of COVID19. Lack of education played out there.
2. Shorter life expectancy
The educated has a higher chance of living longer. This is because he is more informed and is capable of reading and understanding instructions. The uneducated seem to leave in the dark most often. They are never abreast of topical issues except someone takes out time to explain. For example, the uneducated can fall into a trap or danger even when it is clearly written for public awareness .
3. Poverty
The more educated one is, the better poised he is for better opportunities. The educated can move himself from the vicious circle of generational poverty. He is able to see himself beyond the fact that poverty runs in the their lineage. The uneducated is often static running the same business or job year over until he retires.
4. Unemployment
People who lack education often work poorly paid jobs, or struggle to find any good job . In fact, good jobs are reserved for qualified employees, and qualifications are primarily acquired through education.
Education today, represents the key factor that decides whether a person will be able to adapt to changes and find a suitable job, or will become unemployed. Thus, the uneducated only does menial jobs which are often not considered formal employment.
5. Lower salary
Of course, menial jobs can only offer lower salary. People who lack education, even when they find jobs, will always earn lower than the educated and will even work under their supervision. Besides such positions are easily scrapped and the workers are disengaged easily. This also worsens their level of poverty and uncertainty in life.
6. Gender inequality
The situation is even worse for women who are not educated. They are so downtrodden even in their homes not to talk of their work places. Education gives women independence and sense of belonging. It also helps them to make informed decisions in life.
7. Social isolation
The uneducated are always taking defensive positions in the society. This is because they struggle to fit into social situations. due to the fact that they lack courage, boldness and power of expression which the educated has, They often feel marginalised. These also prevents them from participating in various social activities unlike the educated who perform such with ease.
8. Illegal activities
The uneducated who work poorly paid jobs or are unemployed are often forced to work to earn a living the hard way. This explains reasons, crimes are often committed by the poor or the uneducated because they see it as the fastest way to make money and recognized in the society.
9. Poor economy
Countries with more of an educated population will have more productive workers and a more progressive economy but the opposite is the case when it is made up of more of the uneducated population,
CONCLUSION
Education is not just an individual right, but a great opportunity for society as a whole as well. Although, some individuals lost this wonderful opportunities in their early stage in life. This is not an end to it. Education can be got at any point in one’s life . That’s reason second chance education has become inevitable. Many who have realized the importance of education have explored this opportunity and have had positive stories to tell about their lives. Education is a must for everyone.. from the above listed consequences of lack of education, it is clear that illiteracy can hinder one from achieving a lot. Finally, I want you to take a decisive step to get yourself away from that backward position as a result of lack of education.

WHEN LOVE TAKES THE CENTRE STAGE : HOW CAN THE ADVANTAGED HELP THE DISADVANTAGED?
Chinedu was an astitute businessman trading in one of the well known markets here in Lagos. Having become confident that he was man enough to get married, he desired an educated girl , a graduate at that. Luck shone on him and he met the love of his life, young and beautiful miss Angela. They dated for six months and got married .
Miss Angela is a dentist working with one of the dental clinics in the city of Lagos. Angela loved Mr Chinedu so much because he had a heart of gold and a spirit as vast as river Niger . He was also handsome but he never had opportunity to go to school growing up due to the responsibilities he had to shoulder from a young age to support his family who lived in the village.
On day, I met Angela in the clinic having brought my child for some dental check up. As I was discussing with another woman whose daughter had dental issues , Angela overheard our discussion on a second chance to education. As I was about leaving the clinic she ran up to me for clarification on what I was sharing with the other woman. I gave her my contact for further discussion at a more convenient time in my office. She did actually visit.
The next week she came along with her husband who became so interested and committed to making the best use of this opportunity. Chinedu put in all his best because he realised that his darling wife was going to love him the more if he became educated. It would also impart in his business more than ever. The difficulties his illiteracy often posed for them in areas like reading documents, filling forms, being bold to speak in the public and his phobia for traveling overseas for business will be overcome.
Chinedu found it a little challenging at the beginning as he had to manage the stress of going for classes alongside managing his business . Whenever it became too tedious and tiring, the only thing that kept him going was the love for his wife and the target they had set for themselves in the future.
In less than six months , Chinedu had become a surprise to everyone who knew him and especially to his wife who had nothing to regret marrying a once illiterate man whose status has changed for good.
Today Chinedu has a degree from one of the higher institutions in Lagos. He is still happily married to his beautiful wife, Angela and also blessed with children.
I guess the story of this couple is a food for thought to all who are out there thinking that all hope is lost since your parents did not send you to school at an early age. To couples out there, you can help each other achieve your dreams of getting educated no matter how old you are .
Remember, once there is life there is hope.

V Title: A SECOND CHANCE TO EDUCATION
In the bustling and hustling city of Lagos, where every one seemed to mind their business, lived Grace. Grace was a woman of fifty, with a strange look in her face that made her look much younger than her age . She lived a life filled with stories, but there was one chapter left incomplete: education.
Grace had always dreamt of going to school. As a child, her family couldn't afford to send her, and later in life, responsibilities took precedence over her dreams. But now, with her children grown and a newfound sense of determination, Grace decided to pursue her long-lost dream.
With a mix of excitement and nervousness, Grace enrolled herself in an adult education center ( Jimak Adult Education Centre). She felt intimidated the first day she attended class as it seemed almost impossible for her to grasp the teachings of that day. Meanwhile, it seemed to her she was the only one lagging. Grace didn't let this deter her. She walked into the classroom the next day with a smile, ready to embrace the journey ahead.
The second day was a little better as she could see that she was beginning to get glimps of some of the things the teacher was explaining the previous day. Funny enough she had thought age was part of her challenges the first day but now she understood that determination and resilience are key.
Grace no longer fumbled with her schedule nor struggled with understanding the teachings. She had become confident. If at any time she felt a pang of self-doubt creeping in, she remembered her resolve. She wasn't just here to learn; she was here to prove that age was no barrier to knowledge and that with determination and trust in God her dream would be achieved.
She soaked up every lesson, relishing the opportunity to explore subjects she'd only dreamt of. From the phonemes, to spelling, to english grammer, she devoured knowledge like a hungry lion wandering in the forest to catch its prey. But it wasn't just the academics that enriched Grace's life; it was the people she met along the way. Her classmates, initially, whom she thought were better and younger than her were now coming to seek knowledge from her. This made her even more tenacious. They sought her wisdom, and in return, Grace found a sense of belonging she hadn't felt in years.
Of course, there were challenges. Balancing assignments with household chores, deciphering and battling the occasional bout of self-doubt tested Grace's resolve. But with each obstacle she overcame. She emerged stronger, more determined than ever to see her journey through to the end.
At the end of her one year, Grace's journey continued. She earned herself an SSCE certificate; A testament to her perseverance and passion for learning. But more than that, she gained something invaluable: a renewed sense of purpose and a new found confidence in her abilities.
The next year, she sought and got admission for a part time program in one of the Polytechnics in the Lagos. Surrounded and encouraged by cheering friends, family and husband, Grace studied hard and got a diploma certificate in business Administration.
This made her so proud. With the support of her husband and children, Grace now runs one of the biggest mini marts in the city of Lagos.
For Grace , she knew this was just the beginning for a better tomorrow. She now tells whomever that cares to know that what she did was simply to seize an opportunity, to defy expectations, and to prove that it's never too late to pursue your dreams. And as she looked towards the future, she knew that whatever challenges lay ahead, she would face them head-on, armed with the wisdom and courage she had gained on her extraordinary journey.

I once met a child who told me that she doesn't feel happy having her parents visit her in school especially on "open days' as they are not educated and can hardly communicate effectively. She is often embarrassed as most of her friends have their parents educated. What is your take on this?
