🏠 BYOH Nigeria — Building Homes Through Education
Build Your Own Home (BYOH) Nigeria is a pioneering educational initiative that embeds housing literacy, design, and construction awareness into the school curriculum — from Primary through Senior Secondary. It is both practical and theoretical, empowering students not only to imagine homes, but to understand and participate in the systems that create them.
We propose that BYOH becomes a subject in its own right — Housing & Trades Education (HTE) — running alongside mathematics, science, and language, forming part of the student’s lifelong learning journey. From cardboard models to technical drawings and trade demonstrations, each stage builds on the last, nurturing confident, skilled citizens who can one day transform their communities and eradicate homelessness.
📚 BYOH Learning Journey: Age 4 to Graduation
Age Group - 4–6 years Lower Primary.

• What is a home?
• Drawing & Storytelling
• Building simple house shapes with blocks, clay, cardboard
Age Group - 7–9 years Middle Primary

• Explore materials (wood, stone, mud)
• Local housing types
• Team models of homes with cultural features
Age Group - 10–11 years Upper Primary

• Intro to floorplans & measurements
• Discussion of community needs
• Visit local construction sites or host craft demos
Age Group - 12–14 years Junior Secondary

• Trades overview (carpentry, plumbing, masonry)
• Create basic scaled diagrams
