Obedience Is Better Than Opinion

There are matters in Islam where people may differ in opinion.

There are matters where customs vary from one community to another.

But when Allah ﷻ has spoken clearly, the believer's duty is not to rewrite His command—it is to submit to it.

The laws of inheritance are among the most detailed rulings in the Qur'an. They were not left for families to negotiate according to emotions, traditions, or personal preferences. They were revealed by the One who knows His creation better than they know themselves.

Sometimes we hear statements such as:

"This is how our family has always shared inheritance."

"Let's divide it equally so that everyone will be happy."

"She doesn't need a share because she's already married."

But the real question is not:

"What do people think is fair?"

The real question is:

"What has Allah already decided?"

True faith is shown when we willingly submit to Allah's judgment, even when it differs from our own assumptions or cultural practices.

The believer finds peace in knowing that the wisdom of Allah is always greater than the wisdom of mankind.

> "It is not for a believing man or a believing woman, when Allah and His Messenger have decided a matter, to have any choice in their affair."

﴿وَمَا كَانَ لِمُؤْمِنٍ وَلَا مُؤْمِنَةٍ إِذَا قَضَى اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَمْرًا أَنْ يَكُونَ لَهُمُ الْخِيَرَةُ مِنْ أَمْرِهِمْ﴾

Surah Al-Aḥzāb (33:36)

May Allah grant us hearts that submit to His guidance, tongues that speak the truth, and actions that reflect sincere obedience to Him.

When Love Is Tested by Wealth

Many families live together in peace for years.

Brothers and sisters laugh together.

Parents raise their children with love and sacrifice.

Then, one day, a loved one returns to Allah.

Soon after, conversations about inheritance begin.

Sometimes, what was once a close-knit family becomes divided. Words are exchanged. Trust is broken. Relationships that took decades to build are damaged over matters that Allah has already settled in His Book.

The tragedy is not that inheritance exists.

The tragedy is that we often replace Allah's guidance with personal desires, family pressure, or cultural practices.

Allah ﷻ did not reveal the laws of inheritance merely to distribute wealth.

He revealed them to preserve justice, protect the rights of every heir, and safeguard the bonds of kinship.

When we submit to Allah's command, we are not simply dividing an estate.

We are preserving a family.

Inheritance Is Not Only for the Wealthy

One of the greatest misconceptions about Islamic inheritance is the belief that it concerns only the wealthy.

Many people assume that because they do not own vast properties or large fortunes, the laws of inheritance do not apply to them. However, Allah ﷻ did not reveal the verses of inheritance exclusively for the rich.

Whether a person leaves behind a family house, a small plot of land, modest savings, a vehicle, or any lawful possession, every estate carries rights that Allah has prescribed.

The value of an estate does not determine the obligation to fulfil Allah's command. Even a small inheritance must be distributed with justice, sincerity, and obedience.

The real question is not:

"How much wealth did the deceased leave behind?"

Rather, it is:

"Have we distributed it according to the command of Allah?"

When We Delay Justice

Death does not wait.

Yet, in many Muslim families, the distribution of an estate waits for years.

Sometimes for decades.

What was meant to unite a family becomes a source of disagreement. Children grow old waiting. Widows remain uncertain. Brothers and sisters drift apart. Generation after generation inherits unresolved disputes instead of resolved rights.

This was never Allah's intention.

Allah ﷻ revealed the laws of inheritance so that justice would be established promptly, rights would be protected, and families would remain united after the loss of a loved one.

Delaying the fulfilment of those rights without a valid reason is not a trivial matter. Every rightful heir deserves what Allah has ordained for them.

As we prepare for this webinar, let us reflect:

If an estate in our family is still waiting to be shared, are we doing everything within our ability to ensure that Allah's command is honoured?

May Allah grant us the wisdom to act with justice, the courage to uphold His commands, and the sincerity to seek His pleasure above all else.

Justice Begins Before the Distribution

Every family hopes to remain united after the passing of a loved one.

Yet, for many families, it is at that very moment that disagreements begin.

Relationships become strained.

Long-held trust is tested.

Words are spoken that cannot be taken back.

In many cases, these disputes do not arise because Islam lacks guidance. Rather, they arise because Allah's guidance is unknown, neglected, or replaced by customs and personal opinions.

Allah ﷻ did not leave the distribution of inheritance to human preference. He revealed precise laws to safeguard justice, protect the rights of every heir, and preserve the bonds of kinship.

The science of inheritance is therefore not merely about wealth.

It is about obedience before opinion, justice before emotion, and revelation before tradition.

As we prepare for this webinar, let us ask ourselves:

If Allah has already prescribed the rights of every heir, do we truly know those rights?

May Allah grant us beneficial knowledge, sincere intentions, and the ability to uphold His commands with justice.

> "These are the limits set by Allah. And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger, He will admit him to gardens beneath which rivers flow..."
