Black teen from Chicago earns a Master's degree at 14 14-year-old Chicago native, Dorothy Jean Tillman has graduated from Unity College with a Master's degree in Sustainable Science and Environmental Planning.

Four Opportunity funds scholars (Moses, Benjamin, Justus, and Michael) from different years, all former students of School for the Gifted Gwagwalada, reunite. Moses (Ph.D. Microbiology), Benjamin (Ph.D. Chemical Engineering), and Justus (Ph.D. Biochemistry) are pursuing their graduate studies at Arizona State University

"The past 10 years have been quite an adventure! I was fortunate to hear of the Opportunity Funds Program shortly after I graduated from Baptist High School, Jos in 2010. They provided me with resources and advised me through the process of applying to study in the US. I was accepted (Early Decision) to Vassar College where I completed a BA in Biochemistry in 2015. Afterward, I took a year to conduct research at Rockerfeller University Research Center. During that year, I was accepted into medical school at Yale University where I spent the last 4 years. Next month I will begin my internship at Harvard’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital (Internal Medicine) and continue in Ophthalmology at Johns Hopkins.

I feel blessed and grateful to have graduated from medical school earlier this week! I am deeply thankful for everyone who has mentored, taught, advised, guided, and supported
me through this journey. I am thankful for Aunty Shade at EducationUSA who shared the opportunity through Mrs. Adebayo, my mentors and professors both at Vassar and Yale that diligently invested in me, my family and friends that stayed on for the ride, and most importantly, God who continues to write my story, for His glory."
