Always remember!

The physical properties of acids are:

1. Sour taste – Acids have a characteristic sour taste (e.g., citric acid in lemons). (Do not taste chemicals in a laboratory.)

2. Colorless solutions – Most acids are colorless when dissolved in water.

3. Conduct electricity – Aqueous (water) solutions of acids conduct electricity because they produce ions.

4. pH less than 7 – Acids have a pH value below 7.

5. Corrosive nature – Strong acids can corrode metals and damage skin and other materials.

6. Soluble in water – Many acids dissolve readily in water to form acidic solutions.

7. Change indicators – Acids turn blue litmus paper red and change the color of other acid-base indicators.
