1. Sensory Overload: Autistic children can be hypersensitive to sensory stimuli such as sounds, lights, textures, or smells. When they experience sensory overload, it can be overwhelming and lead to distress, including crying.
2. Communication Difficulties: Autistic children may have challenges expressing their needs, feelings, or discomfort verbally. When they are unable to communicate effectively, they may cry as a form of communication or frustration.
3. Emotional Regulation: Some autistic children may struggle with regulating their emotions, leading to sudden outbursts of crying. They may find it difficult to cope with changes in routine, transitions, or unexpected events.
4. Physical Discomfort: It is essential to consider if there could be any physical discomfort or pain causing the child to cry. This could include issues like stomachaches, headaches, or sensory sensitivities.
5. Anxiety and Stress: Autistic children may experience anxiety or stress due to social situations, changes in environment, or academic demands. This anxiety can manifest as crying.
6. Unmet Needs: The child may cry if their basic needs, such as hunger, thirst, fatigue, or the need for sensory input or downtime, are not being met.
7. Overstimulation: Environments that are too busy, noisy, or crowded can overwhelm autistic children, leading to crying as a way to cope with the sensory overload.
8. Social Challenges: Difficulties in social interactions and understanding social cues can also contribute to feelings of frustration or isolation, which may lead to crying.
Understanding the individual triggers and needs of each autistic child is crucial in addressing and supporting their emotional well-being.

AUTISM AWARENESS
Today, I would like to talk about Autism, a topic that deserves our attention and understanding. Thr month of April is dedicated to celebrate these unique people.
Autism, or autism spectrum disorder (ASD), is a developmental disorder that affects how a person communicates with and relates to others. It is a spectrum disorder, which means that it manifests differently in each individual. Some individuals with autism may have difficulty with social interactions, communication, and repetitive behaviours, while others may have exceptional abilities in certain areas such as music, art, or mathematics.
One of the key characteristics of autism is challenges in social interaction and communication. This can include difficulties in understanding social cues, maintaining eye contact, and engaging in conversations. Individuals with autism may also exhibit repetitive behaviors or have specific interests that they focus on intensely.
It's important to remember that autism is not a disease or something to be cured. It is simply a different way of experiencing the world. With the right support, individuals with autism can lead to fulfilling lives and make valuable contributions to society.
As a community, it's crucial that we promote acceptance, inclusion, and support for individuals with autism. By understanding and embracing neurodiversity, we create a more inclusive and compassionate world for everyone.
Thank you for reading.

As a behavior analyst, I often find myself navigating challenging conversations with parents, incorporating expressions such as "I feel" or "I think." Throughout these discussions, parents frequently share their emotional journey, revealing feelings of guilt, embarrassment, anger, and, eventually, acceptance when confronted with their child's developmental barriers.
During home evaluations, almost every parent I meet reports on how tired they generally are most times and the consequential avoidance of various activities, such as going out to dinner with their spouse. These decisions are often driven by concerns about potential harm to their child or others. Undoubtedly, parents go to great lengths to ensure their children are supported, safe, and happy. However, it's crucial to remember that as parents you are not machines or superheroes.

As we step in fully into 2024, consider making a resolution to invest thirty minutes of your day in self-care and self-love. It's a small commitment that can yield significant rewards, fostering not only your well-being but also setting a powerful example for your children.

This week is dedicated to celebrate Neurodiversity.
WHAT IS NEURODIVERSITY?
Neurodiversityโ is a word used to explain the unique ways people's brains work. While everyone's brain develops similarly, no two brains function just alike.
Being neurodivergent means having a brain that works differently from the average or โneurotypicalโ person.
ADHD, Autism, Dyspraxia, Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Dysgraphia, and Tourette's syndrome are all examples of neurodiverse conditions. They're diagnostic labels used to explain the diverse ways of thinking, learning, processing and behaving.
Many neurodivergent persons have extraordinary skills, including in pattern recognition, memory, and mathematics. But the neurodiverse population remains largely untapped.
Let's show love to them and be empathetic. You are not better than them. The same God who created us made them too. We all need each other to fulfill the purpose of creation.
I celebrate all Neurodivergent child and adult. I Love you allโค๏ธ๐ฅฐ.

SELF REGULATION IN CHILDREN
Self-regulation is the ability to understand and manage your own behaviour and reactions.
Self-regulation helps children and teenagers learn, behave well, get along with others and become independent.
Self-regulation begins to develop rapidly in the toddler and preschooler years. It continues to develop into adulthood.
It includes being able to:
Regulate reactions to strong emotions like frustration, excitement, anger and embarrassment.
Calm down after something exciting or upsetting occurs.
Focus on a task for age appropriate timing.
Refocus attention on a new task.
Behave in ways that help you get along with other people.
Do you notice you child from ages 3years old falling short of this points listed above.
IMPORTANCE OF SELF REGULATION
As your child grows, self-regulation helps them:
1) Learn at school -self-regulation gives your child the ability to sit and listen in the classroom.
2)Behave in socially acceptable ways โself-regulation gives your child the ability to control impulses.
3)Make friends โ self-regulation gives your child the ability to take turns in games, conversation, share toys, and express emotions in appropriate ways.
4) Become more independent โ self-regulation gives your child the ability to make appropriate decisions about behaviour and learn how to behave in new situations with less guidance from you.
From ages 3years, children self regulation should be well incorporated in their development.
Do you have a child who is struggling with self regulations? We are always available to help your child develop their self regulation using Evidence based practices.
