ith the first step in the right direction. As often asserted by lovers of Africa, no one is going to develop Africa for Africans. Hence, in GLEEHD we believe that we have a critical role to play in engendering the re-birth of the continent. With youth forming most of the critical mass of bright minds in most of the countries of Africa, we insist that the hitherto neglected and often discarded groups have a lot to contribute. Heavy investment in the Youth and Women is inevitable; not because they represent the majority on the continent; but because they are endowed with resources needed to reshape the future of Africa. ACHIEVEMENTS:
Since our inception, GLEEHD have actively contributed to shaping Governance and Development Policies across Africa and the Diaspora as it relates to the Socio-Economic Development of Africa. In particular, GLEEHD have also played a non-partisan role in promoting Democratic sustenance in Nigeria. Highlight below are of some of our recent policies and strategies. Active relationship and engagement with the United Nations and active participation at various International events, such as the UN World Water Forum, UN Special Session on Children, UN World Summit on Sustainable Development, Nigerian Education Summit, UN High Level Summit on Youth and the Annual UN DPI/NGO Conference. Actively influenced policies through various advocacy programs and initiative. Over 20,000 Youths have benefited directly through GLEEHD’s various Training programs and conferences. Organising of various Leadership, Enterprise Development and Capacity Programs across Africa have directly helped thousands of African Youth and Women such as the International Summer School for Young Africans and the Free Summer Tutorials held for student in rural areas. Conferences and Seminars on Youth Participation in Development such as the Seminar that was acknowledged by Tony Blair on the Role of a Child in Nation Building, which was called the Regional Youth Engagement Conference on Engaging Young Africans in the UK: Towards Promoting Africa Development and UK Child Protection Initiative amongst many others. Over the years, with the support of our partners in the United Kingdom and United States including but not limited to GOLDMERE UK, UK Trade and Investment, The British Council, UNICEF Nigeria, The A.D King Foundation, Yoruba Youth Corporation of North America, Virgin Atlantic, Virgin Nigeria, Africa Bureau for Legislative Empowerment, British Airways, Nimbe Mamora Center for Legislative Leadership, African Foundation for Development, ECONET Nigeria, KIND, BEN TV UK, Africa Leadership Forum, Federal Government of Nigeria, Osun State Government, Lagos State House of Assembly, Center for Innovation and Voluntary Action UK, Save the Children UK, The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Nigerian in Diaspora Organisation, Detroit Tech Town, and others to organise various training activities and exchange programs between Nigerian Professionals, Emerging Leaders, Government Leaders and their counterparts in the United Kingdom and the United States.
