Do not use an apostrophe with non-living things to indicate possession.

Do not say:
1. "The house's colour is blue." (instead, say the colour of the house is blue)
2. "The car's door is faulty." (instead, say the door of the car is faulty)

On the other hand, an apostrophe could be used with non-living things (this is an exceptional case).
