Dear Early Years educator,

Can I use one munite to tell you about early years counting?

Counting in early years should be made interesting for the learners just like any other concept.

Here are a few tips you can deploy to get your learners activated for counting activity.

1. Start with saying out loud the numbers in order. Do this over and over until it starts making sense to them

2. Point to the numbers as you read. This will help them with identifying the numbers when their brain is ripe to assimilate that level of concept.

3. Counting in set. This is where the real magic is. As you progress with the learners in counting activity, get to the point where you can have them point to objects in a group and count them to know how many they are. This is a pivotal step to building a number sence in your early years.

At this stage, use as many objects as possible that you can find around the classroom, put them in a group and get your learners to point and count.

Ensure to practice this to the learners first, let them see you do it before you can get them to practice on their own.

Find in the comment section, a few resources that can get you started with number counting concept for your early years.

If you need more of these kind of resources to spice up your classroom,

N500 naira daily fee for lesson Vs full school system.

Parents how far?

I know that times are hard, what the Nigerian ecnomy is saying is different from the reality of our everyday expenses and experiences.

I know that given the opportunity to choose; based on the economic situation in the country, an average parent will choose the easy way out,

But sometimes, what we percieve as the easy way out is not always the easy way out.

The complete learning experience of a child should cover both curriculum and extra curricula experience.

So when next a home lesson teacher offers you that megre fee to take up your child in place of full school experince, be sure to run this checklist in favour of your child before taking the offer.

☑️Conducive environment for learning
☑️Availability of learning materials and resources
☑️Interaction with other learners
☑️Quality scheme of work to cover the approved curriculum topics and subjects
☑️Qualitative assesement
☑️Balanced feedback.

You know, the above items can guide your search and decision for school for your child come next session

I just thought I should do you a reminder.

Sometime ago, I had alphabet 'naming activity' with some of my pupils. Yes, alphabet naming I said.

Surprised?

This time I made it 'Nigerian themed'. Nigerian names, places, foods, attire, I even allowed slang.

It was quite interesting for me and the pupils. Infact, I was amazed at the level of creativity they exhibited with that activity.

Because the class was more of the Yoruba tribe, come and hear different kinds of names of food that even some of our Yoruba teachers didnt know existed.
Have you heard of 'ojojo' before? 😃

And when I told the children they could also do Nigerian slang, the whole class went agog.

See some of the words they shared below👇

L for lukudi or Lukumond(someone that stares too much)

M is for Magomago(someone that is not straightforward)

K for korekpe(the mini bus in vogue now)

The highpoint was when some one mentioned 'ekokore'; this snake they sell in hold ups, made out of corn. Another child said it's 'KOKORE' not 'EKOKORE'.(Serious argument ensured, later I gave it to them as work to ask their parents)

Ejoo my yoruba people here, what is the real pronunciation for that snack?

Meanwhile, I think it will be a nice game to play with your children/learners this holiday.

Feel free to share some of the strange Nigerian slangs your children/learners have mentioned to you.

Just reminiscing on last session. 😃 😊

In our daily lives as visionary school leaders, we are often dealing with crªzily packed schedules and juggling differnt issues, tasks and responsibilities.

Even within this holiday season, I know that work is going on in and around your space; physically and mentality.

But this weekend, I encourage you to find time to disengage from your hectic schedule and anything called work, and just chill.

Whatever chill means to you;
binge on Netflix,
go the cinemas,
listen to music
Dance to your best beats,
Go shoping,
Eat nice meal,
Go for a walk,
Quality time with friends/family,
Journaling or
Just lie in bed and fucus on the moment.
Infact you can even try one of the tiktok challenges, maybe the ,
Just be sure to catch up on what chill mean to you.

Don't forget the top on the list which is to have a good sleep, I mean, a good sleep. It will do you a lot of good.

I just thought to remind you of few important things you need as the weekend approaches.

Dont forget we have an unfinished discussion on how to maximise the holiday season.

Early tomorrow at 8am. Be sure to grab a cup of tea along as you join.

If your school was to be a novel
what will be the title?

This is one of the assignments in the ongoing SCHOOL BIZ BOOTCAMP. Just wondering why you are not there.

Anyways,

Let's talk about building a brand for your school.

In building a brand for your school, one of the first actions you need to take is to craft or review your , and .

It's not enough to craft one, but how these transcend into the day to day activities of the employees is the major channel to getting them to align.

Your , and are curated words that have the potentials to inspire and drive your staff to action. But you have the sole responsibility(as the leader) to break down these words and statements into guides for their daily activities and work behaviour.

Your core values, mission and vision statement are not just beautiful frames hung on the wall, but your work culture and behaviour in motion .

Ensure that your mission, vision and values are alive in your school.

New session will soon start, how do you intend to make these fabrics of your brand come alive?

If you need help with all of that, Just holla. I'm always here to help. You know I care a lot about your school structure and growth.

The SCHOOL BIZ BOOTCAMP has structured coaching programs and courses to put you through all you need in school management and growth. Make plans for the next cohort starting in October.
