LEARNING IN THE CLASSROOM CAN BE ENRICHED BY CONNECTING TO REAL LIFE HAPPENINGS IN THE SOCIETY.

A video clip on the executive versus military power show that happened yesterday in Abuja can be useful as an ice breaker or well planned assignments (group discussion and presentation) in the Humanities; Sociology, Social Studies ,Civic Ed.

Topics such as
Sociology:Social Deviance and Control
Social Studies : Conflict and Conflict Resolution in Society.
Civic Ed: Rule of Law and Human Right .

Purpose: Critical Thinking,Value Judgement and social responsibility.

Tasks such as the following (appropriate for yr 9 and upper secondary)
1.Appraise the incidence , identify what went wrong or right in the video ?

2. Each group can choose to be either the military officer or the Minister. Justify or condemn their actions and share what you would have done differently?

Discuss in your groups and prepare to present in class in our next period.

I just shared one of the many ways by which teachers can make learning more interesting,engaging, challenging and enriching.

You may share some of the ways you have either brought the society into your classroom or you had your lessons outside the four walls of the classroom for the same reasons shared above.

IT'S WEEK THREE IN OUR SCHOOLS.
CAN WE BEGIN TO DEEPEN ENGAGEMENT WITH LEARNERS?

Deepen engagement in your classrooms.

Introduce inquiry/project-based activities
For example ,here is a driving question for such an activity:
“How can we make sure everyone in our community has clean water to drink?”

That's a question that you can weave a lot of learner led mini group activities around for a whole week so that presentations will then be made next week in class.

How about identifying learners for targeted interventions.
Don't wait till mid term tests and open day to telll the same stories to their parents. Identity the gaps in their learning.
Provide specific, relevant intervention now!

Activate short group presentations/discussions all through the week.
Discussions train learners to question, compare, and justify ideas.
Helps learners move beyond memorization to application and analysis.

Integrate the use of exit tickets/reflections: Learners respond briefly in writing to the question; “What did I learn today?”

Finally, remember to
reinforce resilience. Tell your learners to try first before asking for help.

Have a fun-filled and impactful 3rd week of learning.

Passion is a great motivator.
It must however fuel you in the direction of your purpose.
Not only that your passion must profit you!

Business must be business while charity remain charity with neither becoming a burden to the other.

Even that charity, major charities must be done with real structure undergirding it.
We must learn about the business of charity!
So we don't collapse under the weight of unrealistic expectations from others.

At least the one running the charity and his or her team must be paid salaries and allowances from the fund that comes in while the rest is ploughed back into the charity since charities are not profit making they only plough their surplus fund back into the projects of the charity.

Be careful dear friend your passion must not become a prison....I am especially addressing school owners ,teachers , business owners, those who run NGOs and even individuals.

Yes i am qualified to speak on the management NGOs , I was in leadership of the reknowned JA Nigeria as Programs Manager and Acting Executive Director.
I was also trained in the first set of the Social Sector Management Program at the Pan Atlantic University having been sponsored by Coca Cola Africa.

"Responsible Fatherhood"
The topic I was asked to speak on at Church today.
Pray for and protect responsible Fathers!

They are always at the frontline for their families 24/7 as priests, provider,protector teacher- mentor, guide and guard.

As we look forward to another Father's day, let every wife ,son ,daughter pray for and appreciate responsible and conscientious fathers, be they biological ,step father,guardian or even grandfather.

Remember to pray for those fathers who are not playing their role well because of personal misadventures or outright Satanic assaults! Baba eni ni baba eni...yeye eni ni yeye eni o.

I'll share more on responsible Fatherhood through out this week.

ONLY THE "LEARNED" TEACHER WILL LOSE OUT IN AN Ai ,TECH DRIVEN CLASSROOM. NOT THE "LEARNER" TEACHER.

If AI takes over our classrooms and they become classrooms without teachers, so will learners become egg head - evil geniuses with overrated artificial intelligence and zero emotional intelligence.

We would have succeeded in raising monster- nerds instead of superstar conscientious innovators.

Should we then throw away AI or rejoice at the possibility of not needing to pay teachers?
Noooo.
Both options will end as a zero sum game.

The best approach is to enable lifelong learner teachers, the teachable ones who will use AI in the best way possible to teach our children and still help learners develop emotional intelligence, empathy, assertiveness and a whole gamut of social and soft skills which AI and machines cannot impact alone.

We must take the best of new technologies without losing our humanity and 'humanness'

Technology will never replace teachers who are learners.
Life long learner teachers will inherit the future.

The Learned who are not open to new learning; are only gorgeously decorated with antiquated knowledge, fit only for a world that no longer exist.
