Teach your child to read at home

30/01/2026

If reading time in your house ends in tears…
it’s not because your child is lazy.

It’s because practice isn’t consistent yet.

Struggling readers don’t need longer lessons.
They need daily safe practice.

10 minutes a day builds confidence.
Skipped days build frustration.

Small daily wins turn
“I hate reading”
into
“I can do this.”

Reading without knowing all the letters of English Alphabet is possible. We really do not have to wait nor teach in alphabetical order.

One of the goals I set for myself this year was to try new things, and I’m grateful that the door is already opening in that direction through my career.

Guess who is stepping into adult education? Me.

Our very first adult learner is about 45 years old, has no formal education, cannot read, and speaks very little English. This alone makes the journey deeply meaningful.

An advantage is that we both speak Yoruba. However, it will not be our language of instruction. That said, as a teacher, I understand the importance of flexibility—so I will make thoughtful exceptions whenever I notice gaps in understanding.

I’ll be using the same strong, evidence-based reading approach I apply in my children’s classes, but with a teaching style carefully adapted for adult learners.

I’m excited to share this journey with you. Expect me to document the process, progress, and challenges along the way.

This is growth—for my learner and for me.
