What does it take to change behaviour?
As part of the SMP 99 Project Defence at Lagos Business School, Group 1 took on a problem many urban communities quietly live with.
In cities like Lagos, over 70% of plastic waste is not properly managed, and a large share of drainage blockages can be traced back to it, contributing to urban flooding.
Instead of stopping at awareness, the team worked within Ikota and Onigbogbo (Maryland) to test a more practical approach. In partnership with Africa, they combined education, community engagement, and data tracking to drive a recycling intervention.
60 students were engaged at Ikota Primary School, and over 1,200 people were reached through awareness efforts.
Led by Chinenye Umunna and , the results were clear: 54 community members participated, 56.2kg of PET bottles were recovered in a day, and plastic recovery increased by 258.9% within just 7 days.
This is what it looks like when learning moves beyond theory into real impact.
We’ll be spotlighting more projects in the coming weeks.

You could easily mistake it for a regular class.
But this was the SMP 99 project defense at Lagos Business School and nothing about it felt ordinary.
Five groups presented solutions to real problems they had already engaged with beyond the classroom.
From driving behavioural change around recycling in Ikota and Onigbogbo communities, to building a working app that connects blood donors to hospitals, each project moved beyond theory into ex*****on.
One team went further by improving infrastructure for children in special care, while another reimagined what dignified ageing could look like through better health, safety, and social support systems.
And the winning project took on the challenge of neonatal mortality; designing a solar-powered solution to provide 24/7 energy to the Mother and Child Care Centre in Ogombo.
What stood out across all five wasn’t just the quality of ideas, but the willingness to commit real resources, real time, and in some cases, personal stories to building solutions that matter.
Over the coming weeks, we’ll be spotlighting each project and the thinking behind them.
If you’re ready to move beyond theory and build work that creates real impact, it might be time to step into this kind of experience.

For many Nigerian youths, it has done the opposite. Young Nigerians are learning, building, and competing at global standards.
But without reliable infrastructure, access to global payment systems, inclusion in opportunity networks, talent alone is not enough.
This is not just an economic issue. It is a leadership issue.
At Lagos Business School, through the Christopher Kolade Centre for Research in Leadership & Ethics, we continue to explore how leadership can drive more inclusive systems.

From the early days of pharmacy, the founders were deeply involved, shaping the business, staying close to customers, and building a standard of care that defined the brand.
As the business grew, so did the vision.
There was a desire to build something that could expand, endure, and operate with the same consistency, even beyond the founders’ daily presence.
That shift began to take clearer form after the lead founder attended the Owner-Manager Programme at Lagos Business School. It introduced a different way of thinking, one that focused on building systems, structures, and shared leadership.
Over time, processes were formalised, governance was strengthened, and the business evolved into a system-driven organisation. Today, Vanguard Pharmacy operates across multiple states, with a model designed for scale and consistency.
This journey is now captured in The Vanguard Pharmacy Case, developed at Lagos Business School in collaboration with Vanguard Pharmacy.
Let’s unpack what it takes to grow a business beyond the founder.
