Dear parent,
Kindly take your time to read this👇
I don't know how else to say this to parents, parenting and training up a child is a skill. Like every other skill, it can be learnt. You want to raise a child who excels academically, then get equipped with the right knowledge to back up your desire.
Having a child who excels academically goes beyond pouring anointing oil or screaming "the blood of Jesus."
One of the most powerful tools that can help boost a child's academic performance is your involvement as a parent. Each time I come here to share certain things, I'm sharing from my wealth of classroom experience and daily interactions with parents.
Parents often assume that paying the child's school fees and getting all the necessary books is enough to make a child excel academically. No, it is not enough. There is more!
It's like a car and its owner. Even after you've filled your car with fuel and checked all necessary parts of the car, you still have a part to play before that vehicle can move from one location to another. Your part of driving and controlling the car can not be substituted. It's your sole responsibility.
As a parent, you're a key player in the academic well-being of your child. Education is a collective effort of both the parents, teachers and students. So leaving your part of responsibility will lead to an unbalanced result.
Also, involvement in your child’s education does not begin and end with homework. Yes, I know that's where so many parents get it wrong.
There are many methods you can employ to help your child achieve his or her academic potential. Let me list a few:
-Maintain a positive atmosphere, even when the child isn't doing well. Stop labelling the child with negativity and other demeaning words. Nobody thrives in a place filled with negativity.
-Allow room for mistakes. Mistakes do not mean an end, they serve as an opportunity for the child to learn. Children learn differently, not all children will understand a concept at first glance, some will need to go through it over and over again.
-Create a learning space in your home. You don't need to have a mansion to create a reading space in your home, you can have a small corner in your parlour. Just make sure the child understands the entire setting. This helps the child minimize the number of distractions available, you can create a space at home where it is exclusively for your child to study.
I hope with these few points of mine, I have been able to convince you that education is a collective effort between me (teacher), you (parent) and the child.🤣
