Lagos stands still as Princess Sarah Sosan celebrate 70th birthday
Purple is the colour of royalty and Princess Sarah Sosan, OFR, former Deputy Governor of Lagos State (2007-2011) left no stones unturned as she painted the town purple yesterday as part of celebrations to mark her 70th birthday.
Marquee Hall, Harbour Point, Victoria Island, Lagos, played host to the who-is-who is Lagos in a two-part event which started with a Thanksgiving Service and culminated in a star-studded reception party.
The event had former governors of Lagos State - Mr. Babatunde Fashola, SAN, CON, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, FCA; former Deputy Governor, Dr. Femi Pedro; Deputy Governor of Lagos, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat; Senator Ganiyu Olanewaju Solomon (GOS) and Dr. Olorunnimbe Mamora, former Minister of State for Health and other political leaders from both State and Federal levels.
Members of UNILAG Alumni Association were also led to the venue by Engr. IfeOluwa Oyedele, FNSE, President Worldwide in the company of Asiwaju Dr. Michael Olawale-Cole, CON, MFR, and other members of the National Executive Council (NEC).
Glowing tributes were showered on the celebrant from family, friends, associates and other well-wishers and guests were serenaded to music from A-list gospel artistes including Beejay Sax and Toluwanimi Sings among others.
In her remarks, Princess Sarah Sosan thanked the guests for coming to celebrate with her and also dedicated all her victories in "life's battles" to God. She specially thanked Mr. and Mrs Babatunde Fashola for their support over the years and particularly commended Dame Abimbola Fashola for putting up the party for her.
The celebrant dazzled the guests with iconic dances and an assortment of radiant outfits. It was a memorable evening of music, food and celebration of excellence.

A passionate teacher and educator of over 4 decades, she is a frontline leader, administrator and public figure that inspires so many. Her impact remained remarkable, as her accomplishments as Lagos Deputy Governor, Championing literacy and free and qualitative education backed with free textbooks and high-end inspection for quality standard is stamped on the sands of time as evergreen.
Due to her extensive educational background, she was entrusted with the supervision of the Lagos education sector, along with her portfolio as the Deputy Governor of Lagos State. During her administration, some notable achievements in the sector were improvement in educational standard, increased enrollment, revamping of Technical & Vocational Education (TVE) with the establishment of Technical/Vocational Board.
Princess Sarah Sosan is concerned about issues such as violence against women and unacceptable traditional practices against widows, unequal opportunities for the girl child, harmful traditional practices and sexual abuse against children and women empowerment programmes.
She has received several awards and accolades including; African Leadership Award (2009), Outstanding Female Deputy Governor Award (2010), Ezi Nne di Ora Nma ndi Igbo of Lagos (the Sweet mother of Ndigbo of Lagos) (2010), Woman of Valour Award (2009), Outstanding Contributions and Commitment to National Development award (2007 & 2012 Grand Ambassador of Excellence (2007) and Role Model Recognition Award (2007).

Engr. Oyedele leads strategy session at Yabatech Alumni leaders' retreat
Earlier today, President Worldwide, Engr. IfeOluwa Oyedele, FAEng, delivered a keynote lecture to Executive Members of the Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech) Alumni Association.
Engr. Oyedele, who was invited by the President of Yabatech Alumni, Bldr. Yemi Osibajo, fniob, was the Special Guest and Resource Person at the Joint Action Committee Retreat, held at Jerome Gardens & Suites, Ikeja, Lagos.
The YABATECH Alumni Joint Action Committee is the body comprising of the Board of Trustees (BOT), Elders, Executives and Committee Heads of the Yabatech Alumni Association.
The UNILAG Alumni President drew from his experience in office to present practical lessons on strategic growth, leadership challenges, and sustaining unity and relevance within alumni associations, using the UNILAG Alumni model as a case study.
While noting that the most important strategy for growth is the membership drive, he also urged the leaders of Yabatech Alumni to employ grassroot engagement using the bottom-up approach (engagement of class, departmental and faculty sets, etc) in building a formidable alumni body.
The participants commended Engr. Oyedele, noting that 'they had never seen Alumni from the perspectives he shared' and his lecture was the highpoint of their retreat.

Last week, our Alma mater was agog and the whole of Yaba/Akoka stood still for the 56th Convocation Ceremonies where graduands of the Class of 2025 were admitted into various degrees. It came with THRILL, TRAFFIC, TROPHIES and tales of TRIUMPH!
As always there are special features.
Out of the 16,506 that graduated, eight of them were exceptional while six other personalities were also honoured with medals, distinguished and merit professorial awards.

Engr. Oyedele Inaugurates SPGS Alumni Chapter as Ajisafe, Daini, Others Bag Merit Awards
The University of Lagos alumni family has expanded once again, as a new chapter was formally added to its growing network of professional and academic communities.
In a historic move, the President Worldwide of the UNILAG Alumni Association, Engr. IfeOluwa Oyedele, FNSE, FAEng, has inaugurated the School of Postgraduate Studies Alumni Association (SPGS Alumni), in line with the provisions of the Association’s constitution.
The inauguration took place at the 2026 Annual Dinner and Awards Ceremony of the School of Postgraduate Studies, held at the Jelili Omotola Multipurpose Hall, University of Lagos, amid pomp, pageantry and a gathering of eminent scholars, professionals and alumni.
Speaking at the ceremony, Engr. Oyedele, alongside the 2nd National Vice President of the Association, Otunba Lekan Ajisafẹ, charged the pro-tem executive committee led by Chief Emeka Ozoani, SAN, to uphold the enduring culture of excellence for which both the University and its alumni body are renowned.
While paying glowing tributes to the legacies of past alumni presidents, he also urged graduates across generations to download the Alumni App and utilise the platform to strengthen networking and engagement within the alumni community.
Responding on behalf of the pro-tem executives, Mr George Udobia, Deputy Chairman of the SPGS Alumni, pledged the commitment of the new chapter to sustaining the ideals and prestige of the association, declaring that the SPGS Alumni would “keep the flag of UNILAG flying high.”
The evening also witnessed the conferment of Merit Awards on distinguished personalities in recognition of their outstanding support to the School of Postgraduate Studies. Honourees included Senator Sanni Esinlokun, representing Lagos Central Senatorial District; Otunba Lekan Ajisafẹ, CEO of Post Assurance Brokers Ltd; Hon. Sesan Daini, former Chairman of Igbogbo Bayeku LCDA; and Mrs Veronica Folorunso, a respected finance and commercial executive.
In her welcome address, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola commended the Dean of the School, Prof. Abraham Osinubi, and his management team for what she described as a remarkable transformation of the School of Postgraduate Studies — from a period of “lullness” to a hub of vibrant, newsworthy and impactful academic activities.
The inauguration of the SPGS Alumni marks yet another milestone in UNILAG’s enduring legacy of excellence, scholarship and institutional pride.
