MINISTER OF EDUCATION TO REPOSITION MBTE FOR EFFECTIVE TECHNICAL AND VOCATIONAL EDUCATION

Nigeriaโ€™s technical and vocational education system is facing institutional and curriculum challenges, with more than 55 per cent of assessed curricula described as outdated, while funding constraints continue to affect the systemโ€™s capacity to meet changing industry needs.

About 93 per cent of Nigeriaโ€™s workforce is engaged in informal employment, while approximately 12 per cent of young people are not in education, employment or technical training.

Against this backdrop, the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, has commenced the repositioning of the Monotechnic and Technical Education Board, MBTE, to strengthen its capacity to effectively supervise and coordinate polytechnics, monotechnics and other technical institutions.

A KPMG-led assessment is being undertaken to identify institutional gaps and develop a functional organisational structure and operational framework for the agency.

Alausa says the reform is aimed at making MBTE a fit-for-purpose agency capable of driving technical and vocational education and training through practical skills, industry relevance, employability and productivity.

He says polytechnic education is fundamentally part of the broader TVET ecosystem, noting that the ongoing curriculum review, supported by one billion naira from TETFund, has produced 27 new National Occupational Standards and reviewed four existing standards, bringing the total to 31.

The standards are designed to create a clearer skills pathway from artisan-level training through National Certificate, OND and HND programmes.

KPMG Partner and Head of Tax, Regulatory and People Services, Adewale Ajayi, says Nigeria nevertheless performs strongly in the employability of TVET graduates, ranking second only to Singapore among the markets assessed.

SCREENING TEST SECOND RUN: LAGOS STATE EXAMINATIONS BOARD OPENS PORTAL FOR PRINTING OF EXAMINATION SLIPS

The Lagos State Examinations Board has informed all candidates who have successfully registered for the Second Run of the Screening Test that the examination portal is now open for the printing of Examination Slips.

The examination, which is scheduled to start on Friday, 21st and conclude on Monday, 24th August 2026, will commence at 8 a.m daily at the only designated examination centre, PUBLIC SERVICE STAFF DEVELOPMENT CENTRE (PSSDC), Magodo, Lagos.

All candidates are strongly advised to take note of the examination dates, time and venue, and make adequate arrangements to arrive at the centre early.

Candidates are advised to log in to the portal โ€ฆningtest.examsboard.lagosstate.gov.ng and print their Examination Slips ahead of the examination.

Candidates are expected to carefully check the information contained on their Examination Slips and bring the printed slip to the Examination Centre on their scheduled examination day.

The Registrar of the Board, Mr Adebayo Orunsolu, urged all candidates to conduct themselves responsibly and comply fully with all examination rules and regulations.

Mr. Orunsolu, on behalf of the Lagos State Examinations Board, therefore, wished all candidates a successful and hitch-free Screening Test.

UDUS ANNOUNCES COMMENCEMENT OF CERTIFICATE VERIFICATION FOR FINALISTS AND GRADUATES:

Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS) has announced a Certificate and Testimonial Verification Exercise covering the 2022 to 2026 academic sessions.

According to a circular signed by the Chairman of the Certificate/Testimonial Verification Committee, verification for 2025/2026 graduating students will run from August 24 to September 7, 2026. A separate memo addressed to committee members indicated that the exercise for students of the 2022 to 2025 sessions is already underway.

The committee has directed all finalists to present themselves to the verification officer assigned to their course, as stated in the memo, along with original copies of the following: their UTME result, JAMB admission letter, WAEC/NECO/TC/NABTEB certificate or a duly signed examination broadsheet, diploma or NCE certificate or transcript (for Direct Entry students), a confirmation letter, and a certificate of local government indigeneship

Fourteen committee members have been assigned across faculties and departments to handle the process, with their contact numbers included in the memo for studentsโ€™ guidance.

The university said the exercise is part of its efforts to authenticate academic records ahead of graduation and certificate issuance. The circular was copied to the Vice Chancellor, Deputy Vice Chancellors, Registrar, Dean of Student Affairs, and other principal officers.

Finalists are urged to complete verification within the stipulated time to avoid delays in their graduation clearance.

The Management of Online Jamb Class Academy (OJCA) wishes to inform parents, guardians, and candidates of the following development regarding the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), in line with the official position of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

JAMB has indicated that results of candidates who are below 16 years of age will be released shortly.

Candidates who are not underage and are experiencing challenges accessing their results are advised to visit the official JAMB website at www.jamb.gov.ng and open a support ticket for resolution.

This update aligns with JAMBโ€™s established policy on the minimum age requirement for tertiary admission. Results of underage candidates had previously been withheld pending the exceptional candidates screening process. Those who met the prescribed criteria have already been notified and are progressing through the relevant stages. Results for other underage candidates are now being released to enable them to view their performance.

We urge all stakeholders to rely solely on official JAMB channels for accurate and verified information.
