History Of Ondo

According to Benin oral account, the founders of Ondo migrated from Udo town in Benin Kingdom. They fled Benin during the Benin-Udo war. The word Ondo was derived from “Emwan N’Udo” (a Benin phrase which means “people of Udo”). Similarly, the title of the traditional ruler of Ondo “Osemawe of Ondo “ was derived from Osemwughe, name of the Benin warrior who led the migrants from Udo to the place which is now known as Ondo.

Sitting among the thickly forested planes that characterize southwestern Nigeria are the towns and communities that make up the Ondo Kingdom. Located some 300kilometres to the north-east of Lagos, Nigeria’s economic nerve centre and 45kilometres west of Akure, the Ondo State capital, the Kingdom is easily reached by road from all parts of the country. The Ondo people are one of the largest South-west subgroups, situated in the eastern part of the Yoruba speaking area of Nigeria. The weather elements that characterize the region are those typifying the rainforest region of Sub-Sahara Africa.

The descent of Ondo people, as well as the geography of the Kingdom does not reflect any significant deviation from those of other towns and communities peopled by the Yoruba of south-westernNigeria, who are virtually agreed on the common paternity of Oduduwa. However there exists still, as in most historical collections, about three separate accounts that explain the origin of the Ondo people. While some of the people of the Kingdom, almost in unison rejected a version that links its origin to the Old Benin Kingdom in present day Edo State, as being the invention of its proponents, there seems to be some level of convergence on the other two accounts which trace the origin of the people to Ife and Oyo respectively. While an outright invention of any historical account, as attributed to the Benin Kingdom version, may be unlikely, the symmetry of the more widely held versions of the origin of the people are herein reflected with the major dissonance being in the origin from either Oyo or Ife. But on a broad outlook, the two accounts seem to point towards the same direction.

The King Who Resigned Because of a Woman he Loved and married

Did you know that Queen Elizabeth II would never have become a queen if her uncle who was the former king Edward VIII had not abdicated and resigned in 1936, thus paving the way for her father George VI to become king?

Why did the king resigned?

Well, King Edward VIII loved a woman. It turned out that the woman had divorced two times and she was someone with easy virtues. The marriage of a king to a former hook-up artist was considered scandalous and unacceptable by the British people.

He chose to abdicate after the British government, public, and the Church of England condemned his decision to marry a woman who has a sexual scandal escapade in China and several other places and who was rumored to have become infertile from her many sexual indiscretion.

It was simply unbelievable and unpalatable that a future king-to-be would be getting married to a woman like that. And this caused several protests in London and other places.

With no resolution possible, the king renounced the throne on December 10 1936. The next day, Parliament approved the abdication instrument, and Edward VIII’s reign came to an ignoble end.

At his abdication, he said: “I have found it impossible to carry on the heavy burden of responsibility and to discharge the duties of king, as I would wish to do, without the help and support of the woman I love.”

He later became an outcast. And the hook-up artist of a wife later left him when his health deteriorated... When he died, he was not buried in the royal cemetery. He died a lonely man, in absolute penury. What a sad way to die! Our actions have consequences.

A Professor started his class on a very serious Topic. The moment he turned towards the blackboard, one of the students whistled. He turned, looked at the class & asked the whistler's name. No one answered. The Professor peacefully kept the pen 🖊️ in his pocket saying: "Lecture ends here. I'll tell you a story to utilise the remaining time".
Everyone became interested.

"Yesterday night I tried hard to sleep, but it was miles away from my eyes, so I thought I'd better get petrol in my car, which will save my time next morning & might induce sleep.

After having my tank full, I started roaming in that area, enjoying the peace of a traffic free ride. Suddenly, on the corner I saw a girl who was as young and beautiful as the clothes she was wearing. Must have been returning from a party.

Out of courtesy, I turned my car towards her & asked if I may be of any help. She asked me if I could take her to her home she'll be very obliged, to which I agreed. She sat in the front seat with me. We started talking & to my amazement she was very intelligent, had control on many topics which many youngsters don't.

When we reached her address, she admitted my courteous nature & behavior & accepted that she had fallen in love with me. I also admitted her intelligence & beauty and that I've also started liking her. I told her about my job as a professor in the university. The girl asked my number, which I gave her willingly. Then she asked me a favor, to which I couldn't have denied naturally.

She said that her brother is a student in the same university & asked me to take care of him, since we'll be in a long relationship now. I asked the name of the student. She said that I'll recognise him with one of his very prominent quality, He whistles a lot!
All eyes in the classroom turned towards the boy who had whistled.
The professor said: "I didn't buy my Ph.D in Psychology... I earned it. Now! Come out you stup*d f**l"

Bottom line: The application of your education is purpose of getting education in the first place. Everyday we learn, make sure you apply whatever life brought your way.
