My daughter had her own way of describing things as a child. One of them was to refer to rice cooked using charcoal or firewood as party rice. Often, the menu in question was either jollof rice or fried rice. You must wonder how she came about that. A friend of mine loves singing the song “Ibile by Lil kesh” and I usually sing along. This song reminds me of how some people think that eating our local dishes is unsophisticated. They turn up their noses at local food items. I guess you would have heard people say “I do not eat okro or efo riro (vegetables)”. We were trying to rebrand our business recently and consequently got introduced to a firm of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) consultants. Forms duly completed and all protocols observed, the next stage was to discuss a pocket friendly fee. An offer was made by our would-be consultants and a counter-offer was made by us. Then the experts became funny. They went silent for a while, even initially insisting that they did not receive our counter- offer, after one or two successful efforts to resend the original.
