I was filled up with oil and sent on my way,
When they emptied the oil, on the ground I would lay,
Of no more use, my time was now done,
Then some people used me as a steel drum!
They lifted me up and put me to stand,
I got a new life from these helping hands!
They put me in fire, then pounded on me,
But none of it hurt, it just made me feel free!
Next thing I knew, I was out on the street,
I was making music and I was sounding sweet!
Now the National Instrument of my country,
And the only musical invention of the C20th,
What would I be if those hands hadn’t come?
Probably just a forgotten oil drum.
From my story I want you to know,
We all need a hand, to help us to grow.
