Organ House Conversation

Dr. Rebecca Omordia has been at the forefront of advancing African art music through her performance practice, research, curation, and community outreach across Europe and Africa. Her work constitutes an innovative approach to African art music and African Pianism, highlighting the critical role of women in sustaining African musical cultures and intellectual traditions. Through her artistic, scholarly, and curatorial interventions, Dr. Omordia not only recentres African women within the discourse of African art music and Pianism, but also creates new pathways of representation, mentorship, and possibility for young women and emerging African pianists, musicians, scholars, and cultural professionals. Her practice situates African art music within a global African/Black creative, cultural, and intellectual continuum, connecting the African continent with its multiple diasporas and reimagining African Pianism as both artistic practice and cultural thought.

The Organ House, Department of Music, Mountain Top University, is pleased to welcome Dr. Rebeca Omordia, renowned Nigerian-British concert pianist and founder/curator of the African Concert Series at Wigmore Hall, London. In recent years, Dr. Omordia has been at the forefront of advancing African art music through her performance practice, research, curation, and community outreach across Europe and Africa.

In this Organ House session, Dr. Omordia will reflect on her artistic practice and initiatives, exploring how her work is re-entering African art music into contemporary global visibility. She will examine how her concert series and outreach programmes mediate the tensions between global recognition and local accessibility, and how, through artistic excellence, African Pianism is translated into social, cultural, and symbolic value for diverse publics.

Honoured to Serve on Dr. Martin Luther King (MLK) Jr. Day of Service

I am grateful for the opportunity to volunteer on the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service as a music researcher, and teacher with Art Sphere Inc. Philadelphia, USA. Under the leadership and founder Kristin Groenveld It was a privilege to contribute to making music research accessible to the public and to high school classrooms around the clock through the Art Sphere App.

This service supports expanded access to arts education, enriches student learning beyond the classroom, and reflects Dr. King’s legacy by transforming service into lasting impact.
