THE TRAGEDY OF A GOOD BROTHER
Mazi Ukandu was a civil servant, who served in the post office in the late 70s.
He had three children, 2 boy and a girl, the first child is Obinna, while the second one is Okafor then lastly the girl Adanna.
Ukandu lost his wife during childbirth, his wife died while she was giving birth to Adanna.
The responsibility of training up the children was harsh on mazi Ukandu because Obinna was not behaving like his age mate being that he is mentally challenged.
Okafor the second son has to step up with the responsibility of taking care of his elder brother and younger sister.
Early 90s mazi Ukandu retired from his job due to old age, he return back to his hometown Nise in Anambra state, where he later died after some few years.
Before he joined his ancestors he begged Okafor on his sick bed to take care of his mentally challenged brother at all cost and his sister, he told Okafor to make sure that who ever will ask for his sister's hand in marriage should be a man of good conducts.
Five years after the death of their father Adanna got married to a pilot and left the village, Okafor also got married some years after and have no option than to live with his mentally challenged brother who has become absolutely dangerous and disastrous.
On one occasion Obinna almost killed okafor's new born baby just because the child was crying while his mom was preparing meal in the backyard.
Luckily for Okafor who walk into the room to see his elder brother using a cloth to block his babies mouth and nose in an intention to stop the child from crying.
At this occasion Okafor became more worried about his elder brother.
Okafor tried several times to get a wife for his brother but they all ran away because of his brother's dangerous life style.
Okafor's children grew up and left the village to school outside the state, it was now between Okafor his wife and elder brother in their fathers duplex.
Just this year Okafor traveled for some business trip only to come back and see crowd gathered in front of his compound.
He pushed forward to the crowd looking around to see his brother who was tied to a mango tree in front of his compound, while he was looking around to search for his wife people gathered around him to calm him down.
Mazi Ebo his father younger broke the news to him, how his elder brother Obinna strangled his wife while she was asleep.
