Alcoholism is the term applied to the state of addiction to alcohol, as well as to the changes in health that results from excessive drinking. An 'alcoholic' has been defined as one whose dependence on alcohol has attained such a degree that it interferes with his health, his interpersonal relationships and his social and economic positions.
Alcoholism is the inability to control drinking due to both physical and emotional dependence on alcohol.
Alcohol is a depressant, and the depression of the higher centres of the brain renders the patient less aware of the environment, both internal and external.

3. Unwanted physical or mental effects from drinking.
4. Spending a lot of time drinking.
5. Failing to fulfil major obligations at work, school or home due to repeated alcohol use.
6. Experiencing withdrawal symptoms such as sweating and shaking when you don't drink.
Alcoholism or drug addiction is a form of mental disorder that affects both brain and poor body coordination.

1. Participation in sports or hobby or taking a holiday.
2. Seeking help from family and friends.
3. Counselling i.e the depressed person should visit a professional counsellor or a psychologist for therapy.
4. Helping the depressed person to discover himself or herself to resil e the conflict that makes him or her to depend on another person.
5. Social skills training and assertiveness training are two techniques used to increase the personal effectiveness of depressed person.
6. Social reinforcement is also usesd to increase active and assertive behavior of depressed person.
7. Changing the negative thoughts of the depressed person about the self, about ongoing experience, and about the future.

Women seem to be rather more vulnerable to depression than men. About twice as many women as men are treated for depression.
