COSTLY MISTAKES THAT SHOULD BE AVOIDED BY CONTEMPORARY TEACHERS.

👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼

(1) Never eat, drink or use anything you seized from your student.
It will translate to a sign of irresponsibility as a teacher.

(2) Never speak against or ill of a fellow teacher in front of students.
It will appear as a sign of unhealthy relationship amongst the teachers which may ultimately undermine the students' upbringing.

(3) Avoid using your phone to search for information in class.
It may lead to questioning your competence by the students.

(4) Never cite an example of body size or complexion using any of your students. You might be accused of an assault or an act of body shaming against the student.

(5) Avoid speaking about an embarrassing personal life of your student in the class. You might be the only person knowing it and revealing it to his colleagues may create inferiority complex in the student's psyche.

(6) Never give an unverified answer to a student's question just to avoid being embarrassed for not providing the answer. It is better you find a clever way of delaying the answer until your subsequent meeting to avoid misleading your students.

(7) Avoid isolation with your student of opposite gender for a conversationiit may create a sense of suspicion against your person.
Try to make the conversation as transparent as possible.

(8) Never give a test or an assignment you could not have time to mark.
It is a sign of being unprofessional and might demotivate your students if they see it.

(9) Never send for your student who may be having a teacher in his class.
It may cost him losing some important aspects of the lesson.

(10) Avoid befriending or dating your student in school;this may cost you your hard-earned integrity.
It may work better when you do that after the student's graduation from the school.

May We Be Guided,Guarded And Protected.

AS WE CELEBRATE THE WORLD'S ANTI-CORRUPTION DAY, LOOK AT YOURSELF IN THE MIRROR.

WHO IS OUR PROBLEM?

1.The trader who removes 2 bowls of rice from the bag, repackages, and sells as a 'full' bag is complaining about the wickedness in Nigeria.

2.The lecturer who insists on s*x for a young girl to pass is complaining about the rot in Nigeria.

3.The Pastor who pays his driver 15K in Lagos or Abuja while his son schools in the USA is complaining about the hopelessness in Nigeria.

4. The Mallam (Local Islamic school teachers) who send other people's children to go and beg in the name of Almajiri and bring the money to him on oath so that he will take care of his family while the Almajiri's are looking like slaves is complaining that Nigerian leaders don't know God.

5.The civil servant who comes to work once a week and shows up at the end of the month to receive full salary and kickbacks is complaining about politicians who do nothing.

6.The student who spends the whole weekend at the party after party only to start posting Instagram pictures on Monday is complaining that Nigeria is stealing his/her dreams.

7.The "VIP driver" who can't join a simple queue but keeps overlapping in and out of traffic to shunt is complaining about disorderliness in Nigeria.

8.Doctors in public and teaching hospitals on the government payroll who abandon patients on the floor but are thriving in their private hospitals are complaining that Nigeria is hopeless.

9. The officer who sees 'roger' as his/her birthright and keeps on complaining that our leaders are evil and therefore Nigeria is doomed.

10.Until we realize that the value of Nigeria today is the average of our values, we will keep fooling ourselves.

We are all architects of our economic development and societal woes.

Stop the blame game. CHANGE begins with YOU.

Our attitudes and unpatriotic behaviors should stop.

Politicians sing the songs of the people yet they have no intentions to right the wrongs in the community affecting the people.

You and I are the problems and solutions to our challenges, let's have PERSONAL DIALOGUE with ourselves and CHANGE our ATTITUDE towards NIGERIA.

_BE the CHANGE you want to SEE!_🇳🇬

*OGUN WARNS SCHOOLS ON CORPORAL PUNISHMENT, TO ADOPT NEW METHODS OF DISCIPLINE.*

Schools in the state have been warned to desist from using corporal punishment as a method of correcting children to avoid being sanctioned.

The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu gave this warning when he met the management staff of Adeoye International Nursery and Primary School, Iyesi-Ota in his office to address the issue of a three-year old child that was beaten on the back of her leg by a teacher in the school, Mrs. Taiwo Odunola, on the 28th of October, 2021.

The Commissioner said government would continue to frown at any corrective action that would inflict injury or pains on any child. He warned that government would not condone actions that would drag the name of the State in the mud.

"I want to say here as the Commissioner that I am not happy to hear of this incident and we will not allow any act that would drag the name of the State in the mud. Schools should device effective and humane methods of disciplining a child apart from corporal punishment", the Commissioner said.

Arigbabu, while highlighting some of the negative effects of corporal punishment, such as reducing the level of a child's confidence, maiming, death and so much more, advised that schools should work in tandem with the vision of the present administration, by being 21st century compliant in teaching and learning methods.

He also stressed the need for schools to organise seminars and workshops to bring their teachers up to date on modern ways of teaching and to come up with strategies to use in tackling indiscipline in place of corporal punishment.

In their submission, the Executive Director of the school, Mr. Olu Akinlabi and the Head teacher, Mrs. Ayoola Olusola, while apologising for the incident, revealed that the school has taken some steps to meet with the parents of the child to tender their unreserved apology, and have also placed the erring teacher on suspension.

The teacher, Mrs. Odunola Taiwo, while recounting what transpired, said she did not mean to inflict such punishment on the child, who she described as a daughter to her. She apologised to the parents, school and government for what she had done.

*In a phone conversation with the maternal grandmother of the child, she pointed out that the reaction of the parents was a normal one, but the school and the teacher have shown remorse for what was done. She promised that the family has moved on and had forgiven them.*

OFFICER DEHUMANIZING CORPS MEMBER IN VIDEO HIGHLY UNPROFESSIONAL AND UNACCEPTABLE

The Nigerian Army (NA) has taken cognizance of a video clip currently making the rounds on the social media, where a female officer was seen dehumanizing a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Calabar, Cross River State. This act is not only condemnable, but unprofessional and against established precepts of discipline in the NA.

The NA has remained undoubtedly the pride of the nation, a symbol of national unity that has consistently being in the vanguard of respect for the fundamental human rights of the citizenry. It is against this premise that the NA condemns this unimaginable level of infraction by a personnel in its ranks. The NA therefore, condemns in strong terms, this act of gross misconduct. Undoubtedly, the officer's actions has caused the NA monumental embarrassment and is highly regrettable. This unfortunate act of indiscipline does not in anyway represent the NA and will not be condoned in its entirety.

For the records, the ugly incident happened in 13 Brigade, Calabar. The Brigade Commander immediately instituted an investigation and the officer involved has been identified and sanctioned on the interim and would be made to undergo regimental orders (trial) in line with the extant provisions of the Armed Forces Act. The submission that the Brigade attempted covering up was therefore misleading, as the NA remains a professional force that has zero tolerance for indiscipline amongst its personnel.

The NA wishes to reiterate and assure the general public that such infractions would not be tolerated from its personnel.

The NA also reassures that the rights of the citizenry is sacrosanct and must be respected by all personnel of the NA, as any form of infraction will be severely dealt with.

Therefore, the general public is enjoined to continue to report such infractions, as Human Rights Desks in all formations of the NA are emplaced to deal decisively with such erring personnel.

The NA further wishes to tender unreserved apology to the victim, her family members, friends, National Youth Service Corps and to Nigerians in general for the unwholesome treatment meted out to the Corps member.

BREAKING: JAMB Cancels UTME Cut Off Marks.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has cancelled general cut-off marks for admission into tertiary institutions.

It has, therefore, given the institutions freedom to set their individual minimum benchmark for admission.

The Board took the decision at the 2021 policy meeting on Tuesday which was held virtually and chaired by the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu.

The Registrar of JAMB, Prof Ishaq Oloyede, while disclosing the decision of the stakeholders, said the University of Maiduguri proposed 150, Usman Dan Fodio University Sokoto proposed 140, Pan Atlantic University proposed 210, University of Lagos, 200; Lagos State University, 190; Covenant University, 190 and Bayero University Kano wanted 180 as its cut off mark.

The stakeholders also approved October 29, 2021, as the deadline for the closure of amendments for 2021 admissions.

On the deadline for the closure of admissions, the stakeholders resolved to allow the ministry to decide as they could not agree on the December 31, 2021, deadline for all public institutions and January 31st 2022 for all private institutions.

Stakeholders also adopted the 2021 admission guidelines, which provide that all applications for part-time or full-time programmes for degrees, NCE, OND, and others must be posted only through JAMB.

Speaking on the stakeholders’ decision on other admission criteria, Prof Oloyede said the candidate’s credentials must be uploaded on CAPS and recommended by the institution while JAMB approves and the candidate accepts the offer of admission.

He said when candidates have not accepted an offer, the institution can change the candidate after informing JAMB.

Also approved at the meeting were the guidelines that every institution is at liberty to admit candidates based on its own minimum score approved by the institution and the policy meeting.

The meeting also resolved that every institution should maintain its own minimum score as approved by the policy meeting.

According to the stakeholders, the 2021 admissions will be conducted only through CAPS, no institution is allowed to admit candidates without uploading their details on CAPS.

Oloyede further disclosed that for the 2021/2022 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, the board is introducing two new subjects: computer studies and physical and health education, bringing to a total of 25 subjects.

The stakeholders also exempted prison inmates, visually impaired and foreign candidates from sitting for post UTME exercise.

The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Arch Sonny Echono, said: “It is saddening that despite the clear directives at previous policy meetings some institutions still illegally admitted candidates outside CAPS.

“I consider such an act as a direct affront on the system and appropriate sanctions shall be applied on those found to have been in such a disruptive act.”

He maintained that any institution that issues admission letters to candidates outside CAPS will be punished for such gross indiscipline and fraud.

Ability to memorize a definition is not understanding of the definition.

Ability to memorize a definition is not ability to utilize or apply the principles of the definition.

We have tons of those who can still recall the definitions of Boyle's Law, Charles Law, Avogadro's law, Newton's law but have no clue whatsoever on how they work or can be applied.

Memorisation of information dominates what we term largely as being intelligent.

There are people who have mindlessly memorized texts of the scriptures who have no rudimentary, working nor pragmatic understanding of it.

We have people who can define micro and macro economic jargons beautifully but won't recognize same at play in reality.

Information memorisation is what it is. A memory card cannot be described as an intelligent device because it cannot process the information. It can only store it. There are humans like that too.

Don't be someone who's vast in the philosophical definitions of several subjects but have no clue regarding their real life or practical application.
