LIAISON. Liaison is the linking of the final consonant of a word with the initial vowel or silent h of the following word. This makes the French language flow smoothly.Generally liaison can occur in the following cases: Between article and noun: les_enfants Between adjective and noun: quels_enfants Between preposition and noun: avec_Agathe Between pronoun and verb: vous_alléz Between adverb and adjective: très_impoli .

These letters: é, ez, er, ed, ai - are pronounced like 'ay' in English - may, pay ; (er is pronounced like this when at the end of a word) - for example, éléphant.

Voici and voilà are also used to mean "il y a".
