"SECURITY OFFICERS MUST NOT BEAT THE STUDENTS AND SO ALSO STUDENTS MUST NOT ASSAULT THE SECURITY OFFICERS" Says Dr Ola Olateju, The Deputy Rector, Administration, Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu, at the Security parley with the Students Union Executives, Deputy Rector (Administration),the Security Units and some principal officers of the polytechnic recently in the institution.

The meeting became necessary following the incessant frictions between the Security Officers and the students as witnessed in the times past and thank God laspotians, our voices have been finally heard.

After much deliberations on how best to promote and enhance the mutual understanding and more corporation between the Security officers and the students so as to further make the environment conducive for learning, it was reached that the security officers should be more friendly, less aggressive and civilized in their approach to issues regarding to students, especially when it comes to dress code and must not BEAT any student but can level and arrest student(s) found assaulting or violating the rules and regulation of the School.

While the students, on the other hand, MUST not on any occasion assault or join issues with the security officers but make appropriate report to the Directorate of Students Affairs for proper action upon any incidence.

Also, the management however urged laspotians to be an epitome of not just academic excellence but also in character and decency, as the certificate of the institution is being awarded not just on the basis of academic excellence but also in character.

Lastly, the management also made it known at the forum that the much awaited STUDENTS HAND BOOKS which contain the rules and regulation of the LAGOS STATE POLYTECHNIC are ready and to be given to students at the Orientation Ground.

The Students Union Executives hereby use this medium to commend the efforts of the management for taking the Union's recommendations on how to better curtail the frequent cases of security harassment on campuses and taking strategic decisions without much ado in the interests of the generality of laspotians to address the issue. For this, the SUG says a BIG THANK YOU.

Of the greatest laspotians, let us continue to be the ambassadors of peace, as nothing thrives in the absence of peace!!💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼

1.CONCEIVE/CONCEDE

I have discovered repeatedly an error where people, particularly guys who follow football tend to say 'conceive' when they meant to say 'concede.'

To 'conceive' something is to think up a plan, devise or form an idea or a plan.

e.g.

--- I conceived the idea of teaching English on facebook because of how terrible the use of English has become in Nigeria.✔

To 'concede' something could mean any of these:

a. To accept something as true after initially doubting its veracity.

e.g.

i. I conceded to the fact that John is a good man after seeing him help others.✔

b. To finally accept defeat

e.g.

ii. I conceded I was terrible at maths and numbers quite early in life.✔

c. To fail to prevent a goal from being scored against you in a match.

e.g.

iii. Manchester City conceded 4 goals to OR against Liverpoool in their premier league match yesterday.✔

It is in this third sense that the error is often committed.

You often hear stuff like:

Man.City conceived 4 goals yesterday against Liverpool.❎

Man.City will conceive another goal in this match.❌

Rather, correctly say:

Man.City conceded 4 goals yesterday in their game against Liverpool.✔

Man. City will concede another goal in this match.✔

However, you can still correctly say:

iv. Liverpool's third goal was conceived by Mohammed Salah and executed by Sadio Mane.✔

Here, you mean that, Salah thought up the idea of the goal with his brilliant play and set up Mane who scored.

I hope this clears the confusion.

This is to notify students that the schedule for the above program has been POSTPONED due to logistics reasons on the part of the organisers.
