My first son is supposed to be in Jss2 if he continued in secular school and I get this question all the time about him returning to secondary school.

I've given this thing so much thought and this is my submission.

The goal is to allow my children the time to acquire enough skills and give them exposure to business while they build portfolio.

So help me God!

It's very common for us parents to reward our children with something when they meet our expectations.

But how long does the motivation last?

Giving rewards for learning indirectly tells children that learning itself isn't valuable.

Besides nobody rewards anybody for learning in the real world.

What do you think about this?

I call it the Gift of Homeschooling.

All these wouldn't have been possible if homeschooling wasn't in the picture.

Again, it's not a comparison between traditional schools and homeschool. My children were once in traditional schools.

But I'm grateful for the opportunity to homeschool and the freedom it brings me and my children.

I so much love the Montessori approach to learning. Even though I don't use the curriculum but it opened my eyes to how children learn.

What an adult thinks is nonsense play may actually be a learning moment for the child.

So when next next your child is playing quietly and safely on their own, pause for a moment, do not interrupt them, allow them those few minutes of attention. Their brains are building up neurons that are beneficial to their mental growth.

It's officially our homeschooling year 6.

Homeschooling multiple kids is no easy feat but God has been faithful.

This year, we'll be introducing themed learning, one central idea with different learning depths for all my kids.

My 2yo will experience them through sensory work, songs and imitation.

My 5yo explores through stories, art and hands-on activities.

My 8yo will read, write, do simple researches and projects.

My 11yo will go deeper with researches, discussions and journaling.

I like the idea of having them learn the 'same thing' even though they're ages apart.

This year, I'll be more intentional about sharing our homeschool journey, our challenges and breakthroughs and my mom life. Hahaha!!

It is during these teenage years some parents lose touch with their children.

They tend not to understand them anymore - mood swings, keeping to themselves, big and small rebellion here and there...

Parents develop headache, they've tried scolding, punishing, flogging but none has worked.

Then they give up and begin to live like strangers with their teen child.

It doesn't have to be so, there are foolproof approaches that stand the test of time.
