Meet Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Surajo, the First serving Nigerian Army personnel to attain the rank of Professor.

History of Surajo . Lieutenant Colonel (Professor) Abubakar Surajo Imam is a pioneering figure in the Nigerian Army, known as the first serving officer to become a full Professor, specializing in Mechatronics Engineering at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), where he leads the Mechatronics Dept. and Centre for Innovation. Hailing from Katsina State, his career blends military service with high-level academia, earning PhDs from the UK and developing innovative tech solutions for the Army, making significant strides in military engineering and research.

Early Life & Education
Born: June 22, 1976, in Kankia, Katsina State, Nigeria.
Primary: Sultan Bello Primary School, Kaduna (1982-1987).
Secondary: Government College Katsina (1988-1991).
Undergraduate: Mechanical Engineering, Bayero University, Kano (2001).
Postgraduate: M.Sc. (2009) & PhD (2014) in Mechatronics & Robotics, Newcastle University, UK.

Military Career
Commissioned: Joined the Nigerian Army via Short Service Combatant Course 32, assigned to the Corps of Electrical & Mechanical Engineers (EME).
Conversion: Later converted to Regular Commission.

Key Roles: Served in various EME units, including 1 Base Workshop and HQ EME Corps.

Academic Achievements
First Army Professor: Became the first serving Nigerian Army personnel to attain the rank of Professor, effective October 2022.

NDA Leadership:
Spearheaded the Mechatronics Engineering Department and the Centre for Innovation & Creativity at the NDA.
Research: Conducts research with institutions like Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) and Ahmadu Bello University (ABU).
Innovations Developed and deployed several technological solutions for both military and civilian use, integrating mechanical, electrical, and computer engineering.

The Federal Government has ordered the immediate closure of 41 Federal Unity Colleges over rising security concerns.

The directive was issued through a circular dated November 21, 2025 from the Federal Ministry of Education.

Meet Miss Muminah Musa Agaka who has just graduated as the best postgraduate student from the University of Ibadan, graduating with an impressive CGPA of 6.45/7.0.

For record purpose, three years ago, Muminah also broke a 38-year record in the Department of Sociology at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, by becoming the first person in over three decades to graduate with a First Class degree.

Meet Dr. Aisha Musa Auyo, who has today successfully defended her PhD thesis in Educational Psychology, at Bayero University, Kano.

Her husband, CSC Abdullahi Maiwada,who also holds a PhD in Mass Communications rightly stated that, her wife was born, raised,married and earned all her three degrees (Bachelor , Masters and PhD) at Bayero University, Kano.

Another interesting fact about Dr. Aisha is that, both her parents and parents-in-law are in academic.

Akwa Ibom State Government has approved the appointment of DR. AKANIMO EDET JONAH, MCSN, MNIM, as the Deputy Rector of Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua.

Prior to this appointment, he was the Director, Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) and the immediate past Dean, Entrepreneurial Centre.

Meet Nigeria’s Youngest Professor – Prof. Ridwan Mukhtar Bunza

Professor Ridwan Mukhtar Bunza has made history as the youngest professor at Bayero University, Kano (BUK). He is a Lecturer at the Faculty of Agriculture, where he specializes in Forest Ecology and Silviculture.

Prof. Ridwan Mukhtar, was recently appointed as the Dean of Student Affairs at BUK, Prof. Bunza also serves as the Level Coordinator for 400 Level students in the Forestry and Wildlife Management Department.

A true inspiration to many, his academic excellence and leadership at a young age stand as a remarkable achievement.

Dr. Khadijat Musah, Becomes the first Professor of Community-Public Health Nursing in the Faculty of Nursing Science, Federal University Otuoke, Bayelsa State.

Professor Toyin Musah also holds the distinct honour of being the first Professor of Nursing Science from Ilorin, and the first female Professor of Nursing Science in Kwara State.
