The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has approved a one-time update of registered GSM numbers and email addresses for candidates who have lost access to their original contact details.

The Board announced the policy on its official X page on Monday, saying the service commenced on September 21, 2026.

The revised policy allows candidates with genuine cases to update their registered phone numbers or email addresses through a secure process at designated JAMB centres.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has adjusted the arrival and examination times for candidates participating in the first session of the 2027 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Under the revised schedule, candidates are now expected to arrive at their designated Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres by 7:30 a.m., instead of the previously scheduled 6:30 a.m. The examination will commence at 8:30 a.m. and end at 10:30 a.m.

JAMB said the concerns were particularly relevant to candidates who travel considerable distances to their examination centres and may have to leave home before dawn.

LAGOS SCHOOLS RESUME SEPTEMBER 14, 2026: STATE GOVERNMENT WELCOMES PUPILS, STUDENTS AND STAFF BACK TO SCHOOL

The Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education warmly welcomes all pupils, students, teachers, school administrators, non-teaching staff and other stakeholders back to school as the 2026/2027 academic session commences on Monday, 14 September 2026.

The commencement of the new academic session marks another opportunity to strengthen learning, discipline, character development, innovation and excellence across our schools.

The State Government congratulates parents, learners and education personnel for their commitment and encourages everyone to approach the new session with renewed enthusiasm and a strong determination to achieve academic and personal success.

As public and private schools reopen across Lagos State, all school communities are reminded that the safety, health and well-being of every learner and staff member must remain a collective responsibility.

SAFETY AND CLEANLINESS IN OUR SCHOOLS
All pupils and students are encouraged to:Keep classrooms, toilets, laboratories, playgrounds and other school facilities clean at all times. Wash hands regularly with soap and safe water, particularly before eating and after using the toilet.Avoid littering and dispose of waste properly in designated bins.

Avoid sharing personal items such as drinking cups, cutlery, towels and other items that may facilitate the spread of infections. Maintain good respiratory hygiene by covering the mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing.

Avoid unnecessary overcrowding and maintain good ventilation in classrooms and other enclosed spaces.

Report unsafe conditions, damaged facilities or health concerns promptly to teachers or school authorities. Teachers, administrators and non-teaching staff are expected to lead by example by maintaining high standards of personal hygiene, environmental cleanliness and safety throughout the school premises. Schools are also encouraged to ensure th hiat water, sanitation and hygiene facilities are functional and that classrooms, and frequently touched surfaces are cleaned regularly.

As we begin the 2026/202 academic session, let us work together to create schools that are safe, clean, healthy, inclusive and conducive to learning.

Kwara govt approves 2026/2027 academic calendar for schools

The Kwara State Government has approved the academic calendar for the 2026/2027 school session for all public and private primary and secondary schools in the state.

The Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe announced this on Wednesday at the Ministry's headquarters on Offa Road, Ilorin.

According to Olohungbebe, the approved calendar is aimed at ensuring smooth running of academic activities and improved learning outcomes across the state.

He stated that the 2026/2027 academic session will begin on *Monday, September 21, 2026* and end in *July 2027*. The calendar, he added, clearly spells out resumption dates, mid-term breaks, examination periods, and vacation dates for all three terms.

The commissioner urged proprietors, school heads, teachers, parents, and students to strictly comply with the approved dates.

"The government is committed to standardising the school system and ensuring that our learners are not left behind. Compliance with this calendar will help us achieve better coordination and academic excellence," he said.

Olohungbebe reiterated Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq administration's commitment to repositioning education in Kwara State and making students competitive nationally and globally.

FG AUTOMATES ACADEMIC CERTIFICATE VERIFICATION, ELIMINATES PHYSICAL VISITS TO EDUCATION MINISTRY

The Federal Ministry of Education has announced the full automation of academic certificate evaluation and authentication, eliminating the need for applicants to visit the Ministry physically.

The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, CON, said the initiative is a major step in the Federal Government’s digital transformation agenda and aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Under the new system, applicants can complete the entire credential evaluation and authentication process online through the Ministry’s dedicated platform. The reform is designed to reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks, accelerate processing, improve transparency and provide more convenient services to Nigerians and applicants within and outside the country.

Dr. Alausa explained that the initiative will strengthen the integrity and credibility of Nigeria’s academic certification system while enabling institutions, employers and other stakeholders to verify qualifications through a more structured and reliable process.

The Minister reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to using technology to modernise education governance, improve institutional efficiency and deliver citizen-centred services.

You enrol your child in a school. After completing the admission process, the school provides a list of books, stationery and uniforms to purchase.

You find the same approved and equivalent items at another shop at a lower price and decide to buy them there.
But the school tells you:
“No. You must buy them from us. We don’t accept books or uniforms purchased elsewhere.”

Where equivalent approved products are reasonably available elsewhere, parents and guardians should generally be free to choose where to purchase them.

A school should not unnecessarily restrict parents from buying equivalent approved books, uniforms or stationery from other suppliers.

JAMB TO PHASE OUT FINGERPRINTS, ADOPT FACIAL BIOMETRIC FOR UTME

JAMB is set to introduce Facial Biometric Verification (FBV) for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination to curb impersonation and restore integrity to the process.

KEY POINTS:
1. How it works: Candidates will undergo live facial verification via an app. Results go to NIMC for confirmation, and NIMC returns a code to JAMB to approve or reject the identity.
2. Transition plan: JAMB will run facial verification alongside 10-fingerprint biometrics initially. OTPs will be replaced by facial verification first, while fingerprint use will be phased out in 2-3 years.
3. Why the change: Facial verification is touchless, faster, and works in under 1 second. It doesn’t need special hardware — just standard phone, tablet or computer cameras. It also solves problems with unreadable fingerprints due to dirt, damage or manual work.
4. What’s next: JAMB is equipping all accredited CBT centres with CCTV and training personnel ahead of rollout.

This is a major upgrade for exam integrity. Touchless, NIMC-linked facial verification reduces fraud, eliminates rescheduling for failed scans, and improves hygiene in exam halls.

If executed well, it positions JAMB as one of Africa’s most secure public examination bodies.
